The Too Much TV Roundup- June 14th

All of this, plus work, and I managed to squeez in a movie. Time management, y’all. That’s the way to do it. Finished off another show, and kind of finished off another.

1) Stranger Things (Netflix)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

The last new episode for a few weeks. I loved how this episode played out, because I felt like it was trying me. At first, I was like, will Eleven ever get out of this fucking training center? Then, I saw what they were doing, and I realized we needed to wait for this moment. Of course, I recognized the actor playing the nice orderly and knew that he wasn’t playing some tiny character. But, I had no idea they were going that route. Meanwhile, Murray continues to surprise with his hidden ninja talents, and NANCY! Plus, lite Brites. Anytime one of those shows up, it’s exciting. I remember when I had one. Oh, the 80’s.

Episode Grade: A

2) Full Frontal With Samantha Bee (TBS)

English Audio Description Available?: No

Loved her episode that focused squarely on the NRA. The history of the NRA, and how they actually used to support gun control legislation until the 1970’s. Even with all I watched, this one shot up the list.

Episode Grade: A

3) Russian Doll (Netflix)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

i finished off the second season that went entirely bonkers in the last two episodes. I’m not entirely sure everything made sense, or that they stuck the landing. I’m not sure why she loses so much time when she time travels, and doesn’t come back to the same point where she left off. I feel like she should have been able to say goodbye to Ruth, instead of missing it completely. It was a total loss situation for Nadia, as she has to give up the krugers her grandmother would have loved to recover, that could have financially changed her life, and was the sole reason for doing all of this, and in exchange all she really got was the gut punch that Ruth died without her. Damn. Natasha Lyonne was still great this season, and very much deserves Emmy consideration.

Episode Grade: A-, Season 2 Grade: A-

4) The Flight Attendant (HBO MAX)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

in the 7th episode of Season 2, Cassy comes close to finally putting it all together, but then we’re still left with SO many questions. What happened to Shane? Who hired her double? How did Benjamin know to be there? SO. MANY. QUESTIONS.

Episode Grade: A-

5) The Hardy Boys (Hulu)

English Audio Description available?: Yes

in the fifth episode of the season, I was almost on board. Then i wasn’t. The nefarious villains let Frank an joe go at the drop of a dime. Seriously. Like, a blip on their radar showed the eye being somewhere else, and they just accepted it and released them. Really? You were so sure they had the information that you kidnapped them in broad daylight, but with just a hint that they might not have your information you just let them go? And, that was a real explosion. How did Jessie take cover… anywhere…. That would have kept her alive? And what the hell would be the motive of their classmates? Who is this woman that kidnapped their dad? WHAT IS GOING ON? I feel like the first four episodes made sense, then we got to episode 5, and it was written and directed by a capuchin monkey drunk on martini’s.

Episode Grade: B

6) Queer As folk (Peacock)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

The third episode of the season touched on a few different things. First, the other survivor they don’t like that got cast on American Horror Story is now giving away free cars, including one to Daddius’s parents, who refused to claim their sons ashes. Then, we had Ming giving up everything over a boy. No more drag. Then, our favorite new non-binary mother was taking lessons in parenting reluctantly from the mother of their sperm donor. Then there was this huge party being thrown. Tonally, I’m not sure what this shows messaging is. It feels like survivors of mass shootings are trying to tell us that they don’t like being coddled and being told how brave they are, they’re tired of vigils, and want to move on with their lives. But is that what they’re saying, or is that the story that the producers have decided to tell?

Episode Grade: B
