Seven shows enter the thunderdome today, one will win. Two films were watched, one of them was three hours long. So, that kind of sucked my day up.
7) Tell Me Lies (Hulu)
English Audio Description?: Yes
The truth is starting to get out, and it could have consequences…. Oh wait. She’s just getting dumped. Well, maybe not actual consequences, but the kind of consequences I’ve come to expect from a show that thinks taking a condom off is edgy nowadays. You can’t just have college kids having sex all the damn time, while there’s an interesting plot that could be explored, and it not feel like you’re stretching for time by going for ten episodes.

6) Down To Earth With Zac Efron (Netflix)
English Audio Description?: Yes
I love how the producer comes in on this episode and talks about how much the show has changed his life, and how he wants to make changes to make the world a better place. You’re producing a show like this, and you didn’t already have that angle? The dude is vegan, something the series has explored before, and you’re telling me that he needs to be convinced? I don’t buy that.
Episode Grade: C+
5) One Of Us is Lying
English Audio Description?: Yes
Still no clue who Simon Says is, in the fifth episode, the gang starts planning to turn themselves into the cops as a way to stop Simon Says.Well, that would effectively kill this series. So, at this point, I support their choice.
Episode Grade: C+
4) The Mosquito Coast (Apple Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
As predicted, I wasn’t nearly into this episode that really sailed off in a different direction than the season premiere. Sailed. Get it? Because they were on a boat. Sailing? My jokes are bad. But, Justin Theroux was believable in his state of crisis this episode. So it wasn’t all bad.
Episode Grade: B
3) The English (Amazon)
English Audio Description?: Yes
This show misses Ciaran Hines. However, expanding the backstory of her companion on this trip seems to benefit the show. There’s some mystery at this homesteaders area that I’m not sure I fully understood, but maybe I’ll learn more as the show progresses. Emily Blunt is still terrific here.
Episode Grade: A-
2) The Watcher (Netflix)
English Audio Description?: Yes
After last weeks episode, when i was ready to walk away, I’m glad I didn’t. This show started to really come together. First, Naomi Watts finally had something to do. Second, people start using common sense. Third, Jennifer Coolidge’s performance goes off the rails and she’s great in it. And lastly, there’s a tunnel in the basement. Of course, because every single weird tunnel must be explored, and Bobby and Naomi haven’t seen Barbarian, they start walking into the tunnel. And, we get a cliffhanger of an ending. Maybe this is the house from Barbarian?
Episode Grade: A
1) Tulsa King (Paramount Plus)
English Audio Description?: Technically, yes
The award for worst audio description of the year is going to Tulsa King.i put this out there to some people in the AD community to try and figure out what went wrong, and a few other people who have heard the description can all hear the poor quality of the recording. The narrator is fine. But whoever was responsible for recording/mixing/quality control totally dropped the ball. This show, however, continues to be one of the most consistently entertaining things I’m watching, and it’s either topped the list every time out, or hit second. Stallone was a great choice for this role.
