The Too Much TV Roundup- 04/02/23

I definitely watched a few less shows today, but a few of these are their first episodes (or at least the season premiere).

5) Reindogs (HBO MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

This Brit import turned out to be a comedy, which I found surprising, since its linear time slot follows Perry Mason. Now, I’m so confused as to who at HBO thought this paired well with Perry Mason, or if they even cared. Maybe they’re burning off episodes of something they have no intention of giving a second season. Who knows. I wasn’t expecting a comedy, and i got something I didn’t really care for. It reminded me a bit of when i tried to watch Amazon’s Animals, a show I thought would be a lot more obviously funny, and wasn’t. I’m sure someone will like this, I just didn’t. And I will be moving on.

Episode Grade: C

4) Shadow and Bone (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I really did need that season recap at the top of the episode, but that doesn’t ahve audio description, and likes to time jump. Instead of being an abridged version of the first season, it kind of jumbled together, and I had a bitch of a time remembering everyone, and their weird abilities. I’m still not all the way back, and there’s already a new mystery afoot in the first episode. You can’t expect people to binge watch an entire season, or multiple seasons, just to remember whence we left off. That’s different than watching a movie again before the sequel.

Episode Grade: B

3) Saturday Night Live (NBC/Peacock)

English Audio Description?: No

AD would still be nice. But, Quinta Brunson managed to lead a rather successful episode. Most of it was really funny. Favorite sketch has to be the couples, and Kenan’s biggest fear.

Episode Grade: B+

2) School Spirits (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Even if I have no fucking clue how this world exists, I think it’s a novel idea. Girl dies mysteriously, and her soul is trapped in a support group at school. She is trying to solve her murder from the afterlife, but we also get the living characters and how they are all trying to figure this out as well. That Simon kid really stole the pilot for me. Solid acting, interesting premise, and an ensemble that works.

Episode Grade: A-

Dear Edward (Apple plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Edward and Shea are still having this weird back and forth thing that isn’t working well for them. Meanwhile, i just now realized that Linda and Amanda are two different characters. Like, I thought the pregnant girl had the boyfriend who fought the drug addiction, and had the brother… then i realized… those are two different characters. Mind. Blown.

Episode Grade: A
