The Too Much TV Roundup- 04/27/23

Eleven shows. Plus, I squeezed in a movie.

11) The Masked Singer (FOX/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

This show is really hard for blind people when there is no audio description because I don’t get visual cues. So, in a competitive landscape, this was the loser of the day. I really thought Mantis was jimmy Fallon. This totally seems like something he’d want to do.

Episode Grade: C+

10) Top Chef (Bravo/Peacock)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Dale at least tried to make something innovative in line with the parameters of the challenge. The other chef made shitty potatoes. Why was Dale sent packing?

Episode Grade: B-

9) Outlast (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

One person is medically escorted away, another changes teams, and jordan decides that “no rules” means that he can go steal all of the shit from another team. OK. so if there really are no rules… and theft is legal… can the remaining Delta members go murder jordan? Like are we taking this “no rules except you must be on a team” thing seriously? Cause if so, I’d find jordan and beat him with a thick tree branch. Is Jordan’s plan to just steal everyone’s shit so the other three teams quit?

Episode Grade: B-

8) Cheers (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Some fun lines in here, but mostly this episode is about Woody wanting to make a bet, but Sam doesn’t believe in him, so he doesn’t put the bet through, and it turns out Woody won. So what’s Sam to do? i was fine until we started singing Home On The Range.

Episode Grade: B

7) You (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Ever since the twist was revealed, I’ve liked this season less. In the season finale, while i appreciate the need to set up the next season, which is the last one, this didn’t really satisfy me and put the show in an odd place.

Episode Grade: B

6) Abbott Elementary (ABC/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Wait. That was the season finale? I’m not saying there weren’t some good jokes. it very much ended on an episode that makes me hope they get three supporting actress nominations. But, this whole Gregory and Janeane thing is bogging down them and their characters. It’s too soon. And now the writers have to awkwardly walk it back… but in the season finale.

Episode Grade: B+

5) Friends (HBo MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

David Schwimmer pulls double duty as Rachel tries to move on with Russ, and everyone but Ross and Rachel see the problem.

Episode Grade: B+

4) The Daily Show (Comedy)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Dez was a great host. I’d be down to see her host on a permanent basis, though I’m not sure most people know who she is.

Episode Grade: A-

3) All In The Family (Free Vee)

English Audio Description?: no

I could have used AD here, but Archie trying to navigate having a hot houseguest was funny enough, with a great moment from Jean Stapleton.

Episode Grade: A

2) Will Trent (ABC/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Close to the end of the first season, and they’re making it really personal. That cliffhanger ending was a jaw dropper. Would they really be so bold?

Episode Grade: A

1) Schmigadoon (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Getting people to fall in love this episode was highly entertaining, especially when it evolved into a musical number about eating orphans. Gross and hilarious and well sung at the same time.

Episode Grade: A
