The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/08/23

Well, talk about yesterday being a slow news day. Like, nothing major or earth shattering happened. It was just a regular day. If I pulled some news out, just a sliver of news, I guess I could say that I realized the second season of Swagger drops at the end of the month.

10) Dave (FX/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Honestly, i feel like after that music video episode, Dave hasn’t been able to quite hit that level of perfection in the subsequent two episodes. That episode was something else. Episode 4 was just boring.

Episode Grade: C

9) Young Sheldon (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

Turns out Sheldon became who we know and love because he wanted to prove someone wrong.

Episode Grade: B-

8) Citadel (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

This episode was entirely a flashback, and while it continues to push the “who can you trust” narrative, I don’t know these characters well enough to even care about a flashback episode at this point.

Episode Grade: B-

7) Buffy The Vampire Slayer (hulu)

English Audio Description?: no

Status: Ended

As much as I love Buffy, even for me, as someone who has seen every episode, rewatching this is such a chore without audio description. So much is missed.

Episode Grade: B

6) Bupkiss (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed?

Pete wakes up to find out that the world thinks he died. Not the only joke in the episode, but not every joke lands. I continue to be impressed by the lineup of guest stars. This one had Jon Stewart, who laughed off running for President.

Episode Grade: B+

5) Somebody Somewhere (MAX)

English Audio Description?: yes

Status: Renewed

Sam prepares to sing for the wedding, but also goes through some emotional stuff regarding old wounds about what she was once told when she first wanted to sing. I think the actress playing her has a nice voice. Not amazing, but a perfectly fine voice.

Episode Grade: B+

4) Justified (FX/hulu)

English Audio Description?: no

Status: Revival Coming This Summer

i feel like I’m never getting everything, but I didn’t watch this one alone, so a couple of the things that didn’t make sense to me were explained. it’s cheating, I know, but it did help. I’m only three episodes in.

Episode Grade: A-

3) The Night Agent (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

Even though this was probably the best episode, it still has some barriers of being actually good. I loved how the episode ended, with the secret service agents figuring out the location, but I still am tired of this female assassin with no name, and the villains are playing things way too obvious.

Episode Grade: A-

2) The Big Door Prize (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: yes

Status: Renewed

Poor kid has to try and make a dunk in honor of his recently deceased brother. Meanwhile, someone finally sees what the machine believes is someone’s potential.

Episode Grade: A-

1) Designing Women (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

you may be wondering how a rerun of this show won the day against all these heavy hitters. There’s a really simple answer. A single guest star took this show to the top, because he’s a true legend. Hal Holbrook guest starred, was terrific, perfect, and hilarious. he made the whole episode worthwhile. Rest in peace, Hal.
