The Small Screen Diaries- 02/16/24

I’m now only one episode away from learning which of the three contestants I don’t care about wins Squid Game: The Challenge (Netflix). Of course, I could just look it up, since this was decided a while ago, but I don’t binge shows. I like my cliffhangers. I’m glad Ashley didn’t make the final 3, since she couldn’t see the irony in someone not following with a selfless group act. But, I’m also not sure I want Maya to win. I’m not sure I want any of these three to win, because this show has been more interested in getting … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 02/16/24

Today, I finally found out how Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (Netflix) ended, and I’m not sure what a second season would look like. The adventure is always in getting Scott and Ramona together, so unless they keep telling alternate versions of that story, they’d likely be together in another season. So I fully support the creators intent of this being a limited series. Has Been Hotel (Amazon) crossed into trust building. The songs are silly. This is still a show I like but don’t love, though I give it props for being unlike anything else on the market, and also … Continue reading the Small Screen Diaries- 02/02/24

Looks like NBC is trying to review Suits, with a pilot order for Suits: LA. Also, Netflix made a giant announcement yesterday confirming several series will bow in 2024, including the final seasons of Sweet Tooth, Umbrella Academy, and Cobra Kai, along with new seasons of The Diplomat, Emily In Paris, That 90’s Show, The Night Agent, and Outer Banks. Waiting until 2025 for sure, are Stranger Things, Wednesday, Virgin River, and Ginny and Georgia. That last one surprised me, as it doesn’t seem like a show that takes a long time to put together, and with the relative youth … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 02/01/24

Apple better be continuing on with For All Mankind. That season finale was a beast, and did exactly what I thought it would. Because the show takes these leaps forward in time, original cast members have to keep being shaved off because there’s only just so much you can age a person. Just like how last season ended with a few original cast members exiting, it’s highly likely that the way certain characters are written, means the end for them on the show (at least as regulars). However, there was one prominent character whose future was not shown, and that … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 01/12/24

As promised, I tackled Echo (Disney Plus), but just the first episode. I’m not a huge fan of the binge watch. I like to savor my shows, especially ones with only 5 episodes, and the next Marvel show is quite far off. I thought it was a strong start, but it didn’t break into the top echelon of Marvel shows for me, which really no one has ever topped WandaVision. Some critics have hailed it as what Marvel needs right now, and I say it could ahve been, if they had let Echo stand on her own in the pilot, … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 01/10/23

Best Of 2023: Ensembles In A Comedy Series

Another celebration of the best of 2023. Since shows can’t be trusted to actually stay Limited, I’ve just rolled them into what I either interpret as Comedy or Drama. Kinda like the Globes. All of these shows have audio description except one, and its first season had audio description. This is more than a Top 10, so rather than try to rank a lot of shows that are very close, I just worried about a winner, and a Runner Up. Are you watching these shows? Let me know in the comments. My interpretation of Ensemble is sort of like having … Continue reading Best Of 2023: Ensembles In A Comedy Series

The exciting TV news for the day? Night Court has axed Neil. of course, with my limited time, I was planning on axing Night Court anyway. Also, expect even less day and date releases in 2023, since the strikes pushed back a lot of films on the 2023 calendar. Now they are worried that 2023 could be a really slow year at the movies. Well, maybe you should have stopped trying to replace everyone with AI. 1) Neon (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Not Yet Renewed Santi pushes his crew further away as he chooses his fake alliance with … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/28/23

Good news for fans of Las Vegas. Not the town, but the early 2000’s series that ran for five seasons with James Caan and Josh Duhmael. It is making its Peacock debut on Friday. No idea if it has audio description. Unlikely, but we might be pleasantly surprised. 1) Neon (Netflix) English Audio Description Provided By: XTrax Status: not Yet Renewed Our fledgling reggaeton artist is too star struck to see he’s being used. It’s weird to say that the drug dealing crime lord has a point, but he’s not a gimmick, or a boy toy. And the fact that … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/23/23

Christmas is almost upon us. Yet, Peacock is holding their premiere of the Focus features Holiday Oscar contender, The Holdovers, until Dec 29th. What’s so weird, is that The Last Voyage Of The Demeter still hasn’t found its way, and neither has Oppenheimer. Barbie is on MAX, when is Oppenheimer coming to Peacock? 1) Sex Education (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Final Season The series finale. It was even super-sized so we could call it Sex Education” The Movie. Tonight is the special series finale for Archer, which means I’ll be waiting to see if this thing has audio description on Hulu the next day. Also, this week brings a new season of What If, as well as the new Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. 1) For All Mankind (Apple Plus) English Audio Description By: PixelLogic Narrated By: Darren Polish Status: Unknown Hell hath no fury like Ed after being fired. He’s very much going to be a thorn in Danielle’s side going forward. Also, Margo makes a tough choice to come an official traitor so she can … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/16/23

I didn’t watch the parade. I broke the Thanksgiving rule. I just wasn’t in the mood. However, I did vegetate a lot in front of the TV. Took a nap. The usual. 1) Everything now (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Not Yet Renewed Nothing says Thanksgiving quite like watching a show about a girl with an eating disorder. But, in the third episode, our lead Mia spends most of the episode in her feelings for this girl she likes, only for the episode to once again not turn out the way she expected. It’s so weird to see her … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/23/23

Did you watch any programming themed for Veteran’s Day yesterday? Or, were you like me, just catching up? 11) Hey Dude (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: no Status: Ended A cringeworthy episode where Ted is tasked with monitoring water usage, and asks his Native American friend Danny if he can do a rain dance. When Danny says he doesn’t know how, Ted says it’s easy and just does one. Later, this 80’s kids comedy does make a point of mentioning that this is offensive, but it also spends more time invested on Danny trying to figure out how to do … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/11/23

Well, I suppose the studios weren’t ready to accept SAG’s proposal, so they sent back a counter. Honestly, these companies needing to win this AI battle is pissing me off. Stop trying to own a person’s likeness, especially without informed consent, and certainly not in perpetuity. Also, the new trailer for Echo dropped, and it’s going to be TV-MA. 9) The Gold (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited? in what should have been a movie, we slowly build to the police making their case and being able to arrest people for the heist. The fact that I’m hearing that the SAG AMPTA negotiations are being held up over AI really tells me all I need to know about the studios positions. I do hope SAG does not waiver on their counter to many of the terrible ideas these studios were proposing, including owning an actors likeness in perpetuity, simply because they showed up as an extra for one day. People say that AI is the future, and there’s nothing we can do to stop it. If we don’t regulate it now, that same person is going to have their face regenerated into a … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/01/23
