The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/14/23

Well, some good news dropped for two shows. Netflix went ahead and gave XO Kitty a second season, and Apple has officially renewed Silo. Always nice to start off the roundup with some good news.

11) Mulligan (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

it’s not that this was bad, it’s that everything else was better. I’m enjoying the Senator character, and jokes like Mulligan thinking he can find the National Treasure like that Nic Cage film. but I think, especially on a day where I watched an episode of Futurama, that this show is still struggling to find a clear voice coming out of the gate.

Episode Grade: B

10) The Last Thing He Told Me (Apple plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited

So there’s a point in this show where they just said “fuck it”, and all the mystery and intrigue gets thrown out the door, and everything is explained to Jennifer Garner, so we understand the entire secret backstory. It’s the kind of episode that makes me wish this hadn’t been limited, because it feels like they ran out of time, and needed a data dump.

Episode Grade: B

9) Boy Meets World (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Mr. Feeney decides to put Cory, Shawn, Topanga, and minkus together in a family for a project. This episode made me realize I’m about to miss Minkus, since I think he got written off after the first season. Also, Eric pursues professional modeling, thinking it will be easy, but then has to be a lobster, and tries to get his job back from his dad.

Episode Grade: B

8) Clarissa Explains it All (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

While I never quite understood Sam’s B-Plot, Clarissa and Ferguson become convinced that their parents are having another kid. Though, to be fair, their dialogue makes no sense for what they’re actually doing, which is what makes the episode work.

Episode Grade: B+

7) Justified (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Revived

Raylon’s least interesting episode so far, hints at an investigation into his shootings, but has him instead investigating a possible murder, which is not what the Marshals do apparently.

Episode Grade: B+

6) Fatal Attraction (Paramount Plus)

English Audio description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

It kinda retreads the stuff from the last episode, just from Amanda Peet’s point of view. I’m not sure I’ve mentioned this, but this show has rather weak audio description. There are definitely times where something could be added, and isn’t, or things just aren’t clear enough. Plus, honestly, it sounds TTS. I think it might be a narrator I’m familiar with. The audio quality isn’t great, so it’s hard to tell.

Episode Grade: B+

5) The Golden Girls (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

While I enjoyed Dorothy not playing the failing star of the football team, the best joke in the episode was having the Father of Dorothy’s Catholic school visit the house, and after being introduced to Blanche, it would seem her reputation has proceeded her. Also, Rose is given a storyline about a dentist that feels her breasts while she’s gassed up for a procedure.

Episode Grade: A-

4) Futurama (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Revived

I’ve reached the end of Season 1 already, as Bender is saved from his new religion.

Episode Grade: A-

3) Top Chef (Bravo/Peacock)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Renewed

We now have a Top Chef winner for the whole world. I think they deserved it. I had a feeling an American wouldn’t win, and there would be some international angle in the winner. That’s kind of the point, right? Other reality shows should do this. Could you imagine a season of The Voice that had contestants from all over, or all those international versions of American idol?

Episode Grade: A-

2) White House Plumbers (HBO/ MAX)

English Audio Description?: yes

Status: limited

Finally, we get to the watergate break in episode, meaning we are not wasting our time. Let’s speed this up.

Episode Grade: A-

1) Silo (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

As we see the mayor head down to interview her new potential Sheriff, we also realize the generator is close to breaking, and she can’t leave without making sure it’s repaired, which involves shutting it down temporarily, which has never been done. Meanwhile, that ending. Is the Mayor going to be OK, or are we going to be looking for a new Mayor next?
