The Small Screen Diaries: 05/01/26

There’s some light drama online from Fire Country fans who found out that the show is only getting 13 episodes next season, while Sheriff Country is getting a full second season. the reason for this is the midseason launch of the second spinoff, Med country, which will take Fire Country’s slot. Honestly, with more and more people tuning into streaming services, less shows should be producing 20+ episode seasons anyway, especially dramas.

TV Shows Watched: beef: S2E6 (Netflix) with audio description, high Potential: S2E15 (Disney Plus) with audio description, School Spirits: S3E8 (Paramount) with audio description, Stumble: S1E9 (Peacock) with audio description, The Predator Of Seville: S1E2 (Netflix) with audio description, The Greatest Average American: S1E8 (Disney plus) with audio description, and Marshals: S1E3 (Paramount) with audio description

Beef- Characters are realigning their alliances, as the Beef continues to build, with Ashley and Lindsay bonding more as Lindsay and Josh are splitting up, and Asher spends more time with josh. meanwhile, the South Korean scandal is in full effect, and it might cost someone else their life. DVW continues to do strong work. I loved the description of Oscar Isaac’s Josh wriggling around on the floor as he is tripping balls. good stuff.

High Potential- I’ve seen a lot of Jennifer Jason Leigh recently. She just did Night Always Comes last year, she was in Crime 101 for a scene, she’s in something Very Bad Is Going To Happen, and now she’s a looming danger in High Potential. She’s an Oscar nominee, so you know they aren’t messing around when they invite her to do a role. Our gang better watch out. I do love high Potential.

School Spirits- A very weird third season wraps, with a performance from Jennifer Tilly that at times gave her room to do her thing, but in the finale, stretched her uncomfortably out of her zone. I’m not terribly excited for a fourth season. Well described by IDC I believe.

Stumble- Only one more episode to go for a series that looks like it may not come back. I’m hoping it will, because it is so fresh and funny, and the gang gets to go to Daytona! THE AD is OK, like most sitcoms.

The Predator Of Seville- An unnerving docuseries with a ton of audio description since not everyone speaks English. Manu certainly got away with a lot. VSI does the AD I believe.

The Greatest Average American- Season Finale. I’m convinced the AD team has no idea what to describe in any given episode, as the format is so unique. They’ve gotten a bit better over 8 episodes, but like in Round 2, when we wait for one contestant to choose the number, and the other to choose the over/under, can the audience see anything? there are also sound effects clearly tied to something, but what? ABC wil never prioritize game show AD, as witnessed by the TTS on Celebrity Jeopardy, a show shot last fall that had a ton of time for proper AD. So, I’m talking to myself.

Marshals- the Yellowstone spinoff has Casey trying to figure out who is trying to kill Rainwater, and why. I think Dutton Ranch premieres in two weeks, so we’ll see how the other half has been living. In case you are unaware, Marshals is renewed for next season. Media Access Group has done a solid job with the AD on this show.
