The Small Screen Diaries: 06/13/26

Congrats to the Knicks. Man, longtime Knicks fans must be going nuts. They haven’t won a championship in my lifetime.

TV Shows Watched: Legends: S1E3 (Netflix) with audio description, Imperfect WOmen: S1E8 (Apple) with audio description, Scarpetta: S1E3 (Amazon) with audio description, Half Man: S1E5 (HBO MAX) with audio description, The Fall And RIse Of Reggie Dinkins: S1E6 (Peacock) with audio description, Pop Culture Jeopardy: S2E4 (Netflix) with audio description, Dutton Ranch: S1E4 (Paramount Plus) with audio description, and Hacks: S5E4 (HBO MAX) with audio description

Legends- My opinion went up a bit as they got a bit more tension in the show. Those moments where the undercover agents are almost found out, and the team works overtime to keep everyone alive, are very effective. At the end, the family watching their house burn, knowing they have to pretend to be dead for the time being is a prime example. Tommy should have just ordered his son some food, instead of handing him cash. Come on bro. The AD is OK.

Imperfect Women: What a solid ending to the series, with Kerry Washington, Elizabeth Moss, and Corey Stoll all delivering Emmy worthy performances. I’m happy with the ending, and thought it offered just enough of a twist in the end to suffice. I hope to do a full review of this.

Scarpetta- The young ones are just not the legends they play. I see the young actress trying to be Jamie Lee Curtis, and match that wild energy, but it’s tough. I said last time the flashes need to be majority in favor of the big names in the present day, and it still feels like this show has a hard time balancing two timelines in an interesting way. The AD is fine, though I was kinda curious how Curtis just started talking to an AI like that.

Half Man- I like the series purely because it refuses to be simple, demands it be uncomfortable, and attacks issues in ways that almost challenge the audience to give up. There’s something aobut the dark nature of this that captivates me, along with some superb performances, although I struggled to match what happened last episode to this episode, fracturing the story just a tad. For me, anyway.

Reggie Dinkins: Hilarious. Reggie has a prized possession stolen and does not handle it well. The culprit is one of his own, and they are trying to figure out who, so Reggie can do an interview. The AD here was actually above average for the format, and did manage most if not all the sight gags this episode.

Pop Culture Jeopardy- Still some of the best game show AD around. This team keeps on winning, despite not being able to understand the final Jeopardy question and how they were supposed to answer it. I noted a few times Colin gave a pass on how an answer was phrased, like “The Silo” instead of “Silo”

Dutton Ranch- Someone wake me up when Beth remembers she’s a badass. She really just stands around looking sad a lot. However, Rip has a lot of fire in him. Carter is refusing to go to school, Oriana doesn’t want to be treated like a child, and our legends Annette Bening and Ed Harris need more to do than linger. This has a ton of promise as a show it isn’t tapping into just yet.

Hacks- This was a great episode, with an emotional punch for Deborah as she hears a never before heard interview from her late husband. Ava also has a first look deal, but it can’t be the Mall show she just wrote. Will she come up with a meta idea, perhaps like Hacks?
