TV Shows Watched: Every. Year After: Season 1 (Amazon) with audio description, THe Bear: S5E7 (Disney Plus) with audio description, The Daily Show: Monday (Paramount Plus) no audio description, and Hacks: S5E7 (HBO MAX) with audio description
Every Year After- I know I didn’t do many shows, but to be fair, I binge watched an 8 episode YA drama. So there’s that. Of course, I will review the whole thing. The audio description was really lovely. There’s plenty of specificity here, like in Percy’s horror tastes. She’s watching Blair Witch at one point, she’s reading Christine, and there’s a poster for Creature Of The Black Lagoon on her wall. Good stuff. The series? Nearly beat for beat following The Summer I Turned Pretty, with enough deviations to bamboozle you into thinking this is vastly different. Sam is kind of a toxic love interest for girls to fall for. The Bear- The longest episode of the season yet, as the entire service plays out over the episode. Aside from the monotony of the score, I liked the episode, and when Roy said bright red Cherry (twice), I appreciated the description because Cherry works. But there’s something about it being bright red that adds a level of appetizing behind it, something the description in Top Chef needs. This attempts to make the food sound good.
The Daily Show- Jon rips Trump’s awful WHCD jokes, and then interviewed she who never smiles. IYKYK. I just watched a YA drama, and no cap, I’m all about abbreviations today. LMAO. TTYl.
Hacks- Debora and Ava pretend to be a lesbian couple so they can get the outfit Deborah wants to wear at MSG, the outfit Carol Burnett wore at her last show. Cherry Jones and Leslie Bibb guest star. I believe both earned Emmy nods for this. It was perfect.
Best AD?: Of the three that had AD, nothing was bad. There was something about The Bear though, about the attention to the food, that I really loved as it was being plated. That would slide it into the top spot. Except, at the same time, what I didn’t mention, is the mixing is the weakest it has been, with that damn score and the noise of the night taking over. I actually watched this with a nice pair of expensive headphones that typically gives me an even better experience than just watching off my TV, in terms of sound, and I could hear the AD being defeated. So while I would love to give The Bear the edge, Every year After scoots past it.
Worst AD?: The lack of AD on The DAily Show doesn’t surprise me, since it has a very short half life. But it was the only one eligible for this dishonor.
