The Small Screen Diaries: 06/28/26

I didn’t get to do everything I wanted on my birthday, so the film I wanted to finally get to the theaters to see will have to wait a few more days until my next window. However, I did pick some shows I actually wanted to see. Plus, despite the massive influx of patriotic content this week, X-Men 97 returns on Disney Plus on Wednesday and Silo returns for its third season on Apple on Friday. Also, Survival Of The Thickest drops its entire final season on Thursday, Disney Plus has an Adventure Time series on Monday, and Amazon is about to find out if anyone wants to watch an Elle Woods prequel series 25 years after Legally Blonde hit the big screen. In terms of films, Ready Or Not 2 is coming to Hulu this week, and Lee Cronin’s The Mummy hits HBO MAX on Friday.

TV Shows Watched: From: S4E10 (MGM Plus) with audio description, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory: S4E3 (Netflix) with audio description, For All Mankind: S5E9 (Apple) with audio description, The Rise And Fall Of Reggie Dinkins: S1E? (Peacock) with audio description, and Pop Culture Jeopardy: S2E8 (Netflix) with audio description

From- The season finale was on my birthday, and despite the leaked spoilers online, one of my favorite characters survived. However, this finale was insane, and fans of From are going to discuss it until the Season 5 premiere, which will kick off with a bang. The audio description left me in a few places wondering about some visual things, and I get a lot was happening, but I ahve questions either because of the AD or because the script left plot holes. Could be either. I love the show, but when I review it, Season 4’s grade is down slightly from Season 3. They are much better at asking questions than answering them.

Jurassic World: Chaos Theory- love this show, still trying to finish the final season, so I clocked a new episode. In this, they find Dr Wu, who has his own agenda, which might run parallel to theirs. Brooklyn meets Smoothie for the first time. Excellent audio description as usual.

For All Mankind- Definitely some gaps in the description here, where something visual was happening, without there being a reference to it in the description. Unusual for this series, but this show took a turn. I distinctly remember in Episode 8, they were only using non-lethals because, not just of human lives, but the damage real bullets could do to the carefully orchestrated structures on Mars. They went with live rounds, and a LOT of people died this episode. Nearly every death was minor, though maybe one or two moderately important characters were killed off. Alex really got to step up a lot. Meanwhile, the Titan mission is still looking for signs of life.

The Fall And Rise Of Reggie Dinkins- Old rivalries from the past. Plus, a hilarious little montage of Reggie taking aspects of things he’s seen on television and incorporating that into his own personal life story. The AD here is fine for the format.

Pop Culture Jeopardy- Again, more strong description for a game show. It really tries to follow when we need to know what someone’s wager is, or what they have in the bank, plus the few times Colin points out someone’s wardrobe.

Because I was left with questions in From and noticed problems with the AD for From, the best AD was Chaos Theory, in terms of what it had to do, and what it did. Nothing was terrible, but this was probably the least effective description I’ve heard on For All Mankind in quite some time.
