The untouchables
Where I Watched It: HBo MAX English Audio Description?: Yes I do like to catch up on some classics from time to time, and this one that landed Sean Connery that elusive Oscar has always been on my list. Like most gangster films, especially those based in reality, The untouchables has it’s own following, and while I can see why in parts, I can also just see this as something we probably don’t need to keep touting as cinematic glory. The thing that hurt me more than anything was that I really did not like the score to this film. … Continue reading The untouchables

Where I Watched it: Netflix English Audio Description?: no But…. British Audio Description?: Yes! Honestly, there’s a first time for everything, and that’s the first time I’ve noticed that my audio description was labeled specifically as British, not English. It’s the same language, so it’s not a big deal, all they’re asking of you is to know that a torch is a flashlight. And I’d rather have 100% audio description across all titles, and have to remind myself that boot means trunk than to not have any audio description. And this horror(?) thriller (?) is really like the British answer … Continue reading I Came By

Is it possible? A cancelled TV show on top? Yes. yes it is. 1) Paper Girls (Amazon) English Audio Description?: Yes Amazon’s unjustly cancelled sci-fi drama continued to be really weird in Episode 3. This show is like an onion, and you will not know what the hell is going on until the center, which will take a while. That can be very rewarding. in this episode, we saw Mac find her brother, who is shocked to see her, and thinks it’s some kind of joke because mac died at 16. But, after seeing the walkman with his cassette tape … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- September 15th

A show returned, and I finished one. So, it’s like one goes out, and another comes in. 1) Blackbird (Apple Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes There are scenes in this final episode that would have caused me to hand Taron Edgerton and Paul Walterhouser not just Emmy awards, but also Oscars. They are literal fire in the final episode, with each of them at the pinnacle of their acting performances. Walterhouser has given us a glimpse of this type of capability before, but never to this level, and Edgerton seemed more interested in pumping out stuff like that abysmal Robin … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- September 14th

So, what kind of shenanigans did you get yourself into yesterday? Did you watch a ghost turn into a bird and then into a human? i did. it was awesome. Stupid, but awesome. 1) Locke and Key (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes I’ll be honest and say that if my #2 show had audio description, it would ahve won overall. Sadly, Hulu and FX do not prioritize their blind audience at all. So instead, Netflix, with its rather consistent commitment to audio description, won with episode 6 of the final season, which saw one more villain knocked out of the … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- September 13th

Well, how about those Emmy’s? Did your favorite win? With hundreds of scripted programs on the air, I’m going to guess probably not for many of you. Most of your favorite shows likely won’t even be nominated ever. But hey, at least they are predictable. 1) Love, Victor (Hulu/ Disney plus) English Audio Description?: Yes A perfect storm happened that allowed the series finale of Love Victor to rise to the top. House Of The Dragon produced its worst episode yet, and the other contenders just didn’t hit all the right notes. Love Victor figured out that what its audience … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- September 12th

Never Forget. 1) The Sandman (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes A really well done episode that featured a perfect conversation and walk and talk between Death and Dream, that showed Death and her empathy for helping those transition. The second half was mostly Dream talking to a man they had allowed to live forever so Dream could talk to him every 100 years. Really great stuff, and by far my favorite episode so far. Episode Grade: A+ 2) Beavis and butthead (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes The new movie is still in my Top 10 of the year, so … Continue reading The too Much TV Roundup- September 11th

Where I Watched It: HBo MAX Audio Description Provided By: Deluxe Narrated By: Jedidiah Barton So, as a blind film critic, I’m now expected to enjoy a Baz Luhrmann film on its own merits. I can imagine telling him, or him reading a review from a blind film critic. i feel like he would be absolutely livid that I would have the audacity to comment on his production, knowing what I know about Baz and his work. Here’s the deal. I never saw Australia. The Great Gatsby is my favorite film of his. i didn’t like Moulin Rouge until the … Continue reading Elvis
Paws Of Fury: The Legend Of hank
Where I Watched It: Paramount Plus English Audio Description?: Yes This was a film I had no idea was even in the pipeline. Then, when it suddenly was released, theatrically, I started seeing the reviews. Some critics wondered why this wasn’t sent straight to Paramount Plus, but most understand that a theatrical run can elevate a product like this and keep it from feeling like a third rate film no one ever needed. And the truth is, we didn’t need this film. But, all things considered, it could have been much worse. Aside from the god awful title, this animated … Continue reading Paws Of Fury: The Legend Of hank
Jurassic World Dominion
Where I Watched It: Peacock English Audio Description Available?: Yes I always try and be upfront with whatever audience I have, so here are a few things prefacing my thoughts on Dominion. I, like many, consider Jurassic park to be a benchmark film that solidified a passion I still have today. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve seen this film, but even now as a blind person, it is one of only a small handful of films that I can watch without audio description and listen to the audio track and actually play the entire thing in my … Continue reading Jurassic World Dominion

A couple of new shows today. Just shaking up the rankings a bit. 1) Uncoupled (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes I don’t know if this can sustain. I don’t have those answers after just watching the pilot. But I am sure, this show has a terrific pilot, and i was super drawn into Neil Patrick Harris’s character, getting a glimpse of what I’m sure will be a well rounded supporting cast, all of them seeming to develop their own personalities right away. But the first episode, that dealt with the title of the show, and how Colin needed to find … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- September 10th
Love in The Villa
Where I Watched it: Netflix Narration Provided By: international Digital Center Written By: Kathleen Finn Narrated By: Sri Gordon Just in case your immediate reaction following the recent Love and Gelato was that Netflix send yet another American woman to Europe, your prayers are answered. Formulaic doesn’t even begin to describe this Netflix romcom that shamelessly has no qualms about it’s many similarities to Letters To Juliet, including having our lead character, Julie (Kat Graham) actually share the name, as well as going to the actual wall. Later on, Julie finds herself entrenched much the same way Amanda Seyfried was. … Continue reading Love in The Villa

So, my top spot today was realy tough. No shade on the second place finisher, it’s jsut that number one gave me that My God moment. Those are so rare. 1) Blackbird (Apple Plus) English Audio Description Available?: Yes In what happens to be a matchup of excellent acting, superb writing, and audio description that is absolutely on point, jimmy got more than he bargained for. He got a flat out confession from Larry. The whole thing. Every detail, And, his mission is still to remain Larry’s friend, so he had to sit there and listen as Larry described heartlessly … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- September 9th
Honk For Jesus
Where I Watched It: Peacock English Audio Description?: Yes Fun fact. Since losing my vision, I’ve cared a whole lot less about film trailers, since trying to find audio described versions of them is more frustrating than finding audio described content on some of these streaming platforms. So, when i saw that there was a film coming up called honk For Jesus starring Regina Hall and Sterling K Brown, I assumed it was a petty straightforward religious baiting drama in the vein of Heaven is For Real, Miracles From Heaven, and other studio concocted gems. The dead giveaway here was … Continue reading Honk For Jesus

Just wait till we get to the bottom of this list. you just wait. 1) She Hulk (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes I do not care where she puts the Y in her name, but Polly Guggenheim is welcome back on this show, or any show, or any MCU movie ever in my opinion. If it were me, I’d be signing her to a massive contract right now, so she can just appear as needed, whenever we need a good laugh. Hilarious work, and in an episode where Marvel was obviously screwing with us with Donny Blaze, by making … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- September 8th
