The Small Screen Diaries: 09/26/26

John Stark

Since it’s Sunday morning, let’s start by looking at a couple of shows coming up this week that you may be interested in. From what I can tell, one of the biggest premieres is War, the new HBO Max legal drama starring Dominic West and Sienna Miller, which has a lot of buzz around it and drops on Thursday. That’s the same day as East of Eden, Zoe Kazan’s new adaptation starring Florence Pugh, which premieres on Netflix. We also have some returning favorites this week, including Scrubs on ABC, plus the Animation Domination block with The Simpsons, Grimsburg and … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 09/26/26

I’m still trapped in my own personal hell, so welcome back to Reinventing the Small Screen Diaries for the time being. I tried to watch some things today, and while my attention span wasn’t always willing to cooperate, I did manage to bounce among four very different shows. First up was the new Netflix series My Brilliant Career, which follows Sybylla Melvyn, a young Australian woman who wants to become a writer and has absolutely no interest in getting married. She doesn’t necessarily want to leave her family behind either, but they’re poor, have too many children to support, and … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 09/08/26

Probably not, though I like this reboot of … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 08/19/26

Going In Blind: The Get Out

John Stark

If you’re still hearing the clinking of a teaspoon against a teacup, you might have an obsession with a movie that has nothing to do with The Get Out. Although, if there’s a regional specific accent to The Sunken Place, I’m positive Crowe will find it, and it will sound vaguely Eastern European. Really, it’s for the Albanian’s to critique his accent, but its hard to not notice that he seems to really be devoting himself to roles that require him to vocally disappear over the last few years. The funny thing is, the voice you are accustomed to isn’t … Continue reading Going In Blind: The Get Out

I actually finished a lot of shows this week, which should free up a ton of space and shake up the list next week. Joining the list this week are Dexter Resurrection (Paramount Plus), Building The Band (Netflix), Back To The Frontier (HBo MAX), Foundation (Apple Plus), Sullivan’s Crossing (Netflix), and The Art detectives (Acorn). It’s kind of amazing how sloe the TV news is during the strike. It’s almost like all of the various streamers are angry at their shows, and can’t pick any of them up for another season. of course, they also can’t negotiate contracts with the actors, so there’s that too. 11) Skull Island (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Unknown I think I keep hoping for that perfect magic that Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous gave me, but Skull Island is struggling to give me that balance. It’s funny how that last episode of Silo that I reviewed yesterday felt so much like a Season Finale, and so many streaming shows cap at 8, I just thought that was the finale. Apparently not. Hah. Damn, that will be hard to top. In other TV news, I’m still supporting the actors and writers for striking to not be replaced by AI. If they don’t do it now, they won’t be working later anyway. John Stark

You know? This was a pretty good day in terms of television watching. Shows that had previously started to let me down have seemingly course corrected. 1) Breeders (FX/Hulu) English Audio Description Available?: no I generally really do try and make sure the show on top is an audio described title, which makes this all the more frustrating. but I swear, Breeders feels at times like it might just be the best show on TV. Not as consistent of a day as I had the day before, but still some really good shows out there to be watched. I just wrapped what remained on Netflix, which contains audio description. Honestly? I didn’t watch the Emmy’s tonight. I’ve lost all hope that the Emmy voters have any idea who to vote for. The nominations are silly. And, oh look, Breaking Bad swept the drama category.
