I’m making a greater focus on audio description and the importance of it in 2024. every title on this list has audio description at least in some part. So, for my first in a long list to come of celebrations of the best work of 2023, here is the list, with titles and where you can watch them. The fact that I’m hearing that the SAG AMPTA negotiations are being held up over AI really tells me all I need to know about the studios positions. I do hope SAG does not waiver on their counter to many of the terrible ideas these studios were proposing, including owning an actors likeness in perpetuity, simply because they showed up as an extra for one day. People say that AI is the future, and there’s nothing we can do to stop it. If we don’t regulate it now, that same person is going to have their face regenerated into a … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/01/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/11/23

So AMPTPA walked away from SAG talks all pissy, because SAG didn’t make the deal. look, the studios had a lot of way more specific deals to iron out with SAG than the WGA and DGA, and saying you offered them the same deal is impossible. Did you commit to having hairstylists on set who are able to properly style ethnic hair? Did you guarantee the safety of extras on set? Did you agree to stop trying to scan everyone and stop owning their likeness in perpetuity? I bet if these negotiations were available for regular folk to watch, AMPTPA … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/11/23

Tubi really does have some deep cuts in terms of shows they have that are no longer on the air. Check out what I found in the rankings below. 8) Name That Tune (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Not Yet Renewed Megan Hilty! That’s really all I needed. I wish the show skewed in her favor, and she had to guess something like Secondhand White Baby Grand from Smash. It didn’t happen. Episode Grade: B 7) 911 (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Moved To ABC This episode, S4E2, featured a catastrophe that kinda needed audio description, but once … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/04/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/27/23

This time, I really didn’t stay up for any grouping of seven people on the same stage. but, I did watch some interesting shows, and we got a better timeline of how quickly some of these other shows are returning to air. 10) Name That Tune (FOX) English Audio Description?: No Status: Not Yet Renewed I suppose they had to release the crappy matches at some point so they dumped them both in the same episode. Both of these matchups featured a lot of misses, which made it not very interesting. Pick people who know music. The football players got … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/27/23

The studios claim they have made their best and final offer to the WGA,. After four days of negotiations, the two are scheduled to meet again today. I do believe this has to be ratified by the membership, so if there aren’t major concessions made by the studios it won’t pass. Writers haven’t been picketing for 5 months just so AI can start becoming a credited screenwriter. 11) The Continental (Peacock) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited I suppose its possible that if I had never seen the John Wick films, I might have enjoyed this. However, i have seen … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/23/23

HBO wasted zero time in cancelling Winning Time at the same time (I’m saying time a lot this time aren’t I?) as the season finale, which is now a series finale. I had a feeling this was going to happen, since the shows creator was begging for viewers on Twitter. 8) The White King (MGM Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Not Yet Renewed I have no idea what this show is about. It’s incredibly slow, very serious, has some medieval fighting sequences, and I guess royal drama? There was one good scene where the King admonished the Lords who … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/17/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- October 16th

One show enters and leaves in the same day. I’m so backlogged on content, that it didn’t make a big enough impression to stay in my life. 9) Everything I Know About love (Peacock) English Audio Description?: Yes This show centers around a group of Brits who live together and talk about their love life’s or lack thereof. The only reason I’m passing is just because this ensemble didn’t do it for me. I’ve seen this concept done, with some variety, many times over the years. Most recently, HBo MAX had The Sex lives Of College Girls, which while not … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- October 16th

Emmy Wish List: Best Comedy Series

1) Community If you rolled your eyes, you’re probably a Community-purist, which is OK. You probably thought that a non-Dan Harmon Community is blasphemy, and you hated the fourth season. Me? I couldn’t tell the difference. I thought there were some terrific episodes this season, like the Christmas episode, or the season finale. It’s time to give NBC’s most underrated underdog its due. 2) Happy Endings Nothing could possibly help Happy Endings’ prospects more than being nominated for Best Comedy Series after ABC’s unceremonious cancellation of the beloved cult favorite. A nomination for Happy Endings would be “ah-mah-zing” as our … Continue reading Emmy Wish List: Best Comedy Series
