Avatar Ang: The Last Airbender

There’s certainly been a lot of frustration surrounding the takeover of Paramount, CBS, Paramount+, and the rest of the company’s brands by David Ellison. Early on, I remember reading comments from one of the executives brought in to evaluate the studio’s future, talking about which brands were considered viable and which weren’t. That mindset didn’t exactly inspire confidence, especially when projects started disappearing. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series spun off from Mutant Mayhem was canceled despite already having episodes completed, and the most recent Dora series also had a large number of finished episodes left sitting on the shelf. … Continue reading Avatar Ang: The Last Airbender

Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Story

I think Paramount got confused when the third SpongeBob movie opened in the middle of the pandemic and did really poor at the box office. That is the only reason I can think of to explain how this new SpongeBob film is premiering on Netflix. Yes, it does center around our aquatic squirrel, but she does basically go on the adventure with Mr SquarePants, so, she’s essentially swapping in for Patrick. In preparation for this, I rewatched all thre SpongeBob movies leading up to this, because they all have audio description. When we get to the fourth film, it is … Continue reading Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Story

The Small Screen Diaries- 02/12/24

Welcome back Jon Stewart, who has returned to The Daily Show once a week through at least the election. Also, Katy Perry is making this her last season of American Idol. Dear Producers, *PLEASE* get an alumni. It is so awkward that two of them have been on The Voice, but not American Idol. It’s time to bring home Kelly, Carrie, Jennifer Hudson, Fantasia, Jordon Sparks, or any of the myriad of female artists whose career has been launched by this show. Honestly, I wish the whole panel was alumni. And with that, I knocked out another episode of My … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 02/12/24

Apparently Percy Jackson is doing solid numbers for Disney. Over 13M in the first week. Maybe the series will survive. 1) Bodies (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited I may not always know what is going on, but as the series moves forward the series has intrigued me a lot. By episode 5, things are really starting to come together, and you can see characters understand what is going on. Episode Grade: B+ 2) Monarch (Apple Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes Narrated By: Jedidiah Barton Status: Unknown Our characters find themselves really trapped in the freezing tundra being chased … Continue reading The Too Much Tv Roundup- 12/26/23

Had no idea this was happening, but apparently Baz Luhrmann recut his film Australia and released it on Hulu as a six part limited series. What an interesting concept. First, the Snyder Cut, now a new version of Australia. 1) Beckham (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited The first episode does a good job of explaining why David Beckham is famous. If you are at least familiar with the concept of who he is, you’ll be fine. It starts pretty much at the beginning of his football career, and the first episode takes him through his meteoric rise, and … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/26/23

Well, I said, and I’ll say it again, the post-strike cancellation wave is still bashing us. It likely will take a break for Turkey Day, but not before Disney Plus could axe The Muppets Mayhem. In fact, on the film side, rumor has it that they are trying to sell off The Bike Riders. Not sure why, as that played fairly well at the festivals, but whatever. in other cancellation news, Melissa Barrera was fired from the new Scream 7 for having the audacity to tweet. No apologies required, the Scream franchise has so many surviving characters alive right now, … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/21/23

Did you watch any programming themed for Veteran’s Day yesterday? Or, were you like me, just catching up? 11) Hey Dude (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: no Status: Ended A cringeworthy episode where Ted is tasked with monitoring water usage, and asks his Native American friend Danny if he can do a rain dance. When Danny says he doesn’t know how, Ted says it’s easy and just does one. Later, this 80’s kids comedy does make a point of mentioning that this is offensive, but it also spends more time invested on Danny trying to figure out how to do … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/11/23

A couple of things. It’s like these companies were waiting for the strike to end to start their bad behavior. Immediately following news of the strike ending, Warner Bros celebrated by totally and permanently shelving Coyote Vs Acme, another finished feature project, and using it as a tax write-off. So, once again, a ton of artists worked on a film for months, just so it can live forever in a closet. Meanwhile, ABC should have already known the fates of The Rookie Feds and The Good Lawyer, because as soon as the strike was over, ABC cancelled The Rookie Feds, … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/09/23

First off, I want to give a big shoutout to Scott Blanks, another movie lover and audio description advocate who just dropped his first review on my site for Birth/Rebirth. Make sure to check that out. 9) Billy The Kid (MGM Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Season 2 Just Started I wanted to start this show and give it a shot, but sadly, this story based on the titular outlaw is really hard to follow without audio description. I tried, and failed. The sad thing is, where The Winter King just left me cold, there’s a part of me … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/29/23

Best Buy announced they will no longer be selling physical media after this holiday season. That breaks my heart. I have a massive physical media collection of DVD’s and BluRay’s, and before losing my vision, I used to love to hit up Best Buy on Black Friday, run in and grab a ton of new entries to my collection for cheap. Now, I’m all worried about whether or not something has audio description, which shockingly not every disc does. 12) Chip and Dale’s Rescue Rangers (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended It’s not down here because of quality, … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/14/23

Two big new shows dropped yesterday. Also, Hulu, which just brought back moonlighting, announced the return of LA Law in November (not the remake). And there was news of Halloween being purchased for TV rights and a cinematic universe. So look for a Michael Myers TV show as well as I guess an Avengers style Myers universe? 10) The Ren and Stimpy Show (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended While I am still enjoying a little taste of nostalgia, this series very much relies on sight gags and really needs audio description. It also has some perfect gags, … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/12/23

I don’t know how I missed the drama, but Starz apparently cancelled Heels, and almost immediately removed the show from its service. There was a notable campaign on Twitter to shame Starz for cancelling the series. honestly, with Outlander in its final season, if they don’t start figuring out their programming, they’ll be the Power network, and it’ll be hard to get people attracted to new shows who aren’t watching Power spinoffs. 11) Justified (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended People get shot at in this episode, and it’s tough to figure out who and when, since there’s no … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/06/23
