Lucky: Series Review

I definitely saw quite a bit of buildup for Apple TV’s new limited series Lucky, which hit the streamer in July and ratcheted up the tension over seven episodes. Over Your Dead Body looked like it was tailor-made for me. You have Jason Segel starring in a film directed by Jorma Taccone, the man who gave us one of the most underrated comedies of my lifetime, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. I don’t know how many times I’ve watched that movie or listened to the soundtrack, but it’s one of the funniest films I’ve ever seen. I found out that Apple isn’t moving forward on a third season of Schmigadoon. Honestly, I was shocked they made a second. Very pleasantly surprised, as I love that show, but still surprised. Not shocked by the cancellation, especially after they also ditched The After Party last year. I also wasn’t surprised by who won Celebrity jeopardy (Hulu) this week. I saw a glimmer of TV news that reminded me that ABC’s limbo shows are all still in limbo. Decisions have not been made yet firmly on a second season of The Rookie Feds, a fourth season of Home Economics, or a first season of the Good Doctor spinoff The Good Lawyer. Well, the WGA didn’t end up going back to the table after all. So the strike is still on. i truly believe these studios refuse to budge on AI, and the guilds can’t afford to, because they understand once they allow it in the door contractually it will start putting people out of work.
