The Too Much TV Roundup- 04/11/23

You know, yesterday, I called it the lineup instead of the roundup. Nothing. No complaints. Radio silence. Maybe I should call this Woody’s Roundup, and at least I’d get a bit more traffic for doing so. Right now, I’m using Woody’s Roundup, and the search engine algorithms are starting to put this post as a potential search result for fans of Toy Story, Woody, Jessie, and the whole gang. I guess you can call me a Prospector, because I just hit a Bullseye!

There was no significant TV news yesterday. That’s what that means.

4) Shadow and Bone (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I love that at the end of this episode, when Elena goes to tell the Prince her decision, the AD narrator makes sure to slide in that he’s shirtless and has this great set of abs. I wonder what her choice might be. I’ve never heard about Mal’s six pack before. Sometimes, I do not understand what is going on in this show. At all. I’m still having that problem, likely made worse by the gap between seasons, and me having not read the source material. So, the struggle is real. There was a moment where I was like… who the fuck is David?

Episode Grade: B-

3) The Arc (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: Yes

The writers here are really pretty solid. It’s a shame that like a third of this cast can’t act their way out of a paper bag. In this shocking episode, Kelly is still in existence, and the Trusk’s are awakened. Hmmm. I wonder if that gun she has is going to end up being in an assassination plot against the founder. But seriously, that travelling at speed of light scene was awesome.

Episode Grade: B

2) American Idol (ABC/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

This was night one of two. It’s the top 24 judgement. Now, I can’t take these judges seriously when they’re like… it’s so good this year. The talent is so high. And then they keep karaoke performers like Zachariah. There really are some great voices on this show, but one of those great voices inexplicably is sent home in the next episode… so we can have the 19 year old burger guy who adopted a ten year old when he married his mom. Meanwhile, to the shock of no one, Fire’s usefulness to the show ran out. And even though she was getting better each performance, she likely would have made the cast too diverse. I mean… can you imagine? An indigenous American Idol? The thought! Let’s go find another white guy with a guitar instead. ‘Murica!

Episode Grade: B

Oh, and, can we please stop trying to find asinine ways of creating tension by talking in ways that no human being would ever talk. “We’re going to have to send you home… so you can pack your bags so you can come back and be in the Top 24!” That’s like saying “You’re going to have to find another job… and then tell them to shove it because you now work here!” “Unfortunately, the cancer is back….in someone else down the hall, but you’re cancer free!”

Been a fan since Day one, and these things keep getting more and more dumb.

1) The Good Doctor (ABC/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Sean spends the whole episode worried Glassman has brain cancer, but then when he doesn’t, he’s still not satisfied. Being this close to the end of the season, I’m assuming Richard Schiff doesn’t want to come back next season, because the last couple episodes have centered around the concept that Glassman is not OK. There are only just so many attempts on his life that can be made, before it becomes clear an actor is wanting to leave a show, and they’re getting you ready for an emotional finale. Meanwhile, the rest of the cast either worked to help a baby with a rare heart condition, or a man who was cut in half.

Episode Grade: A-
