The Too Much TV Roundup- 04/12/23

Netflix cancelled Free Rich after one season, further justifying my decision to only watch one episode. I made the right choice, and my heart wasn’t broken. And Apple cancelled something called Amber Brown? Did they have a show called Amber Brown? Did I miss that?

6) Outlast (Netflix)

English Audio Description: Yes

This show must have been a bitch to edit. First episode was fine. They introduced us to 16 people in 4 teams, and one girl left because of questionable survival skills. I’m not even an outdoorsy person, and I know you need to boil that water. But, then in the second episode, on only Day 3, three more “survivalist lone wolves” quit. So, two episodes in and we’re already down to 12. I wonder how many will leave in the next episode.

Episode Grade: B-

5) Alaska Daily (ABC/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Instead of letting her reporter buddy deal with the trauma of being the survivor of a hostage situation and watching his captor be shot in the head, Hilary Swank relentlessly pursues him until he comes back. Because there is a serious story that needs reporting. And this week, we talk about police and using extreme tactics to get people to confess.

Episode Grade: B

4) 911 Lone Star (FOX)

English Audio Description?: No

After last weeks episode, which was definitely different, we come back to find that crazy couple from earlier in the season is back. And they are in deep shit. Carlos and TK finally talk about wanting kids. Even though Carlos’s own family makes valid points to him about his bullshit reasoning, Carlos still ends with “I don’t know if I’ll ever be ready.” What was the point of this episode?

Episode Grade: B

3) Daisy Jones and the Six (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Daisy’s friend gets sexually harrassed, and Daisy meets the Six, who need her if they want to survive as a group. So, now everyone is together.

Episode Grade: A-

2) Ted Lasso (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Everything was pretty perfect, and this was the episode that gave me clarity on how I think they end the show this season. It’s pretty clear that Nathan might love being head coach, and very good at it, but Rupert and his lifestyle are not for him. So, He’ll obviously return to head coach his old team, as Ted passes the buck so he can go home and spend more time with his son. There’s been a much heavier focus this season on this father/son relationship, even with Ted gettin to mention his own father and reminiscing about the time they had. Remember, Ted’s dad was taken from him when he was young, so this plot line has been interwoven this whole time. That’s my bet. I don’t have insider information, I just watch too much TV.

Episode Grade: A

1) The Mandalorian (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Moth Gideon’s got a new trick up his sleeve this week as the Mandalorian fight off the Super Shredder and the Foot Clan. A somewhat major character dies, another is captured with their existence now in the balance, and Bo has to figure out what to do next. Yes. Please.

Episode Grade: A+
