The Too Much TV Roundup- 05/02/23

Well, I messed this post up earlier, and in order to get a notification sent out with the correct title, i redid the roundup.

In case you missed that bulletin, Dancing With The Stars is returning to ABC. between that and 911, things aren’t looking good for bubble dramas like Big Sky, Alaska Daily, The Company you Keep, and The Rookie Feds.

9) Outlast (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

In the last ranking, I didn’t put Outlast in last, and this gives me the opportunity to do it. I think this show and the producers made a huge error. I came into this week hoping to see ramifications for Justin stealing Delta’s camp. That didn’t happen. Apparently, “no rules” is literal. The thing is, Justin’s success inspire Alpha girls Jill and Amanda to do the same thing. Brian sees what the game is becoming and taps out, leaving Javier by himself. So, while Delta is trying to merge with Javiers Bravo, Amanda and hill brazenly storm Javier’s camp. Amanda destroys his raft, and starts trying to take stuff down by the raft, while jill is up at the camp in a standoff with Javier. he can’t be in two places at once, and Jill also knows Javier doesn’t want to hit her on a filmed reality show. I fully believe these girls used the fact that they’re female to destroy Bravo, because Justin knows if he had gone, Javier wouldn’t have had a problem fighting him. But, Javier remains a gentleman, and doesn’t fight the Alpha bitches, and loses his camp. Team Delta have nowhere to go, so they flare out. Javier has less than a day to get to Team Charlie, if they accept him.

But, I’m done. What Amanda and jill did was push the boundaries of the “no rules”. Javier was right. What they were doing, going around and stealing other peoples things is illegal. That’s theft. If the producers are giving the green light to that, then there’s nothing stopping some ripped alpha males from teaming up in Season 2 and steamrolling through other people’s camps. Javier is right. That’s not surviving, that’s cheating. you’re not Outlasting anyone based on skills, but rather your ability to brazenly push “no rules” to the limit. I do wonder, if Javier had not been so polite, what would the producers have done? Is fighting allowed on this show? no rules, remember? There wasn’t a statement at the beginning of the show saying that they couldn’t fight each other. The only rule to win, was that you couldn’t do it alone.

What started out as a fun concept was allowed to go horribly awry, and I’m tapping out. No more Outlast for me.

Episode Grade: F

8) Up Here (hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I realize now that not only is the music hit or miss, but i actually don’t care about these two. The show didn’t do what Zoey’s Extraordinary playlist did and establish these characters and make me invested before throwing them together. Ironically, the third episode is focused on investing in characters. I think the writers should look inward.

Episode Grade: C+

7) Friends (HBO MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Not my favorite episode, as it is imbalanced. This really only features joey, Ross, and Phoebe in their individual plots. joey is being stalked by a fan, Ross is searching for Marcel, and Phoebe plays oddly inappropriate music.

Episode Grade: B

6) Perry Mason (HBo MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Basically, the fallout of finding the gun. Strickland searches for his soul.

Episode Grade: B

5) 911 (FOX/hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

S1E2 still has a very interesting approach to a man coming out of the closet, with this episode ending the way it does.

Episode Grade: B

4) American Idol (ABC/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

one of the two people I was hoping to see go was voted off. Mary Beth is the weaker female country singer, and now is gone. I was hoping for Zachariah, who i never would have put in the Top 26. i don’t know what kind of artist he is. He’s pure karaoke, and has no artistry. Colin’s cover was awful though, and he got a pass. I would have stripped that down, taken the rock out of it, and turned it into a moment. Instead, Colin lost his thick accent and rocked out. Consistency. Y’all are trying to make an album after this.

Episode Grade:B+

3) The Ark (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: Yes

The actors are awful, but the plot is engaging.

Episode Grade: B+

2) School Spirits (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

This episode introduces some new suspects, because we needed more.

Episode Grade: A-

1) The Good Doctor (ABC/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Perez’s final episode, and I think i know where Glassman will be in Season 7 since a certain position was vacated.

Episode Grade: A-, Season 6 Grade: A-
