Basically, what I did for Mother’s Day was watch TV with my mom. I think this is the most amount of titles I’ve accomplished in one day.
16) Am I Being Unreasonable? (Hulu)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Unknown
Yes. You are. Hulu has this labeled as a Hulu original, but much like Wedding Season which they clearly didn’t care about in September, they don’t care here either. Honestly, neither do I. This is one of those slice of life askew shows where it’s just your average everyday family, but they’re just a bit quirky. It reminded me a lot of Breeders, if Breeders sucked.

15) Designing Women (hulu)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
I really think the soundtrack hasn’t been preserved or had any attempt at restoration. it sounded older than some of the older shows I watch. But, even though I remember watching this as a kid because my mom enjoyed it, and the talents of Jean Smart, Annie Potts, and Delta Burke all came from here, this pilot was a bit of a cluster. I didn’t think it really did a great job of laying out the series, or being a good pilot.

14) Home Improvement (Hulu)
English Audio Description?: no

Way back in the day, Disney tried to do this 3D thing with their ABC programming, and this episode is the revenant of that. The cast spend far too much time in this episode making weird noises as things are clearly headed toward the camera for a 3D effect. It got old, really fast. What helped, was the B-Plot, which saw Brad allowing his girlfriend to do everything for him, from his laundry to making him a sandwich. And of course, we have a lesson about that.

13) 8 Simple Rules (Disney plus)
English Audio Description?: No

Paul spent the entire episode bemoaning Bridget wanting to get her driver’s license, while his other daughter is having some crisis about whether or not to enter an art show.
Episode Grade: B
12) Dead Ringers (Amazon)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Limited Series
Rachel Weiss stars in this TV adaptation no one was asking for, that I can’t compare to anything because I actually haven’t seen the original Dead Ringers. I’m not sure how many people have. But, this is here. And it’s OK. not amazing, and it feels like it’s being stretched for time.

11) Transatlantic (Netflix)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Limited Series
Gillian Jacobs stars as a wealthy American in France during WWII times trying to help refugees flee. The most interesting thing was that I learned France ended up making an agreement with Germany to round up the refugees and return them to Germany. Considering how this all ended up, France wasted a lot of time bowing down to Germany while they just got stronger, didn’t they?
Episode Grade: B
10) Barry (HBO MAX)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Final Season
The Season 4 premiere was a great episode for Sarah Goldberg, and Bill Hader had some moments, but story wise, I have started losing the ability to care. That’s why this is the final season, because it has nowhere else to go. That show that I really loved back in Season 1, has found ways to slowly chip away at itself, so it’s not where it once was. I’m a big Stephen Root fan, and even i don’t want him on the show anymore. I’ve also never liked Anthony Carrigan’s presence in this show. I wish I could find that magic when it was just Hader/Goldberg/Winkler. Those were the days.
Episode Grade: B
9) Frasier (Paramount Plus)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
Watching Frasier un ironically talk about Roz’s spending habits just because he loaned her some money was groan worthy, but this episode does end with everyone rehired and back at work, so there’s something.
Episode Grade: B+
8) 911 (FOX/Hulu)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Moving To ABC
This season 2 opener saw a man with a live explosive in his body, and introduced us to our two new faces. Jennifer Love Hewitt joins the cast. And, Angela Bassett and Peter Krause have to be the weirdest will they/won’t they. I’m not sure at any point during the first season did I want to see those two together, or did I believe they had chemistry.
Episode Grade: B+
7) Mrs Harris (Peacock)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: not yet Renewed
Oh my. What have i gotten myself into? At first, I was like… what in the hell is this? But, as I accepted that this show needed to force itself onto me, i just accepted it. Then, when my mind returned… I realized this batshit nonsense was a little fun, and I’m interested to see where it goes. But no one warned me. This show is absolutely nuts. Also, pretty damn violent.

6) Everwood (FreeVee)

In “The Great Dr. Brown”, we continue the really well done exploration of these characters, while giving Delia a bit more to do. Ephram may seem insufferable at times, but frustratingly he often has a point. Or a lesson. He’s not just a brat.

5) The Diplomat (Netflix)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Renewed For Season 2
Keri Russell’s new Netflix drama has already been given the green light for another season, and it’s also being compared to The West Wing. That last part is more of a desert oasis scenario, where we are all just so desperate for the next West Wing, we’ll take anything leaning a little in that direction. A solid start though for sure, and unless they screw it over like Designated Survivor, it should have a decent shelf life.

4) Grace and Frankie (Netflix)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Ended
Grace realizes she might be the reason someone is running for political office, while Frankie makes things worse for Coyote. Really, Bud was a giant ass hat, and we learned that BriAnna was chainsmoking at 9 years old.

3) Better Call Saul (Netflix)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Final Season
i had to wait for Season 6 to hit Netflix so I’d be guaranteed audio description. Well, the Season Premiere basically was fantastic, except for Lallo still being alive. I need that character to go away so this show’s final season isn’t all about him. My least favorite character during the entire run of Better Call Saul.
Episode Grade: A-
2) The Last Thing He Told Me (Apple Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: limited Series
my mom was super impressed with this one. Partially because it tells you nothing, so you are totally learning things on the fly. There’s virtually no set up or backstory. The plot gets going immediately. The dynamic between the two leads is rough, intentionally, and side characters come and go without us knowing if we can trust them. It holds your attention by refusing to give you details, and it oddly works.

1) The marvelous miss Maisel
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Final Season
God I’m going to miss the lightning fast dialogue in this series. It’s kinda weird how this episode cheaply got rid of two characters at the top of the season, freeing up two other characters. I don’t know if they are gone for good, or if their partners will rally, but there was a big theme here about splitting up. I suppose, three groupings all ended in the Season premiere. That’s a lot.
