The Too Much TV Roundup- 05/24/23

Well, my first day with MAX and I can say that I didn’t have a problem migrating. it did return a title I had removed from my Continue Watching. So, it’s aggressively trying to get me to watch something and give it a second chance. And, it refuses to play Shazam: Fury of The Gods, but other things went just fine. How has your MAX experience been? Are you ever so happy that we did all of this so you could have more reality TV?

9) Florida Man (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited Series

I’m not sure what it is that I want for this show, but i want something more. Three episodes in, and perhaps the draw is different for me, since I actually live in Florida. I know this thing was probably shot in Georgia, since nothing shoots in Florida. Maybe residents of other states are loving this.

Episode Grade: B-

8) Doogie kamaloha (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

Our titular doctor is living her best Izzy as her relationship with surfer boy falls apart (he sees no problem with deleting her from his social media, or the fact that his sponsor wants him to), which makes her hot patient who is also probably gonna die (just like Denny) the alternative. I think they’re assuming the target demo didn’t watch the earlier seasons of Grey’s Anatomy.

Episode Grade: B

7) Friends (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

Chandler and Joey become obsessed with Richard. Richard spends lesss time with me. I mean, monica. Ross wants to be there for the first of something that Ben does, so he babysits him for a whole weekend. And Phoebe learns that all the movies she thought had happy endings, actually don’t.

Episode Grade: B+

6) Boy Meets World (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Cory and Eric think their mom is sneaking out to see “some guy”, and let Shawn watch Morgan while they trail her on her cheating date. It’s a nice episode, except for the amped up weirdness of Topanga, who we all know eventually turns into a rather normal love interest. She literally channels the dead, and growls at Cory. Obviously, they had no plans for this character in the beginning.

Episode Grade: B+

5) Top Chef (Bravo/Peacock)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Renewed?

Six becomes 4, which next week will become 5 when the last winner of Last Chance Kitchen rejoins the show. Double elimination episodes always suck.

Episode Grade: B+

4) 911 Lone Star (FOX/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

The 2nd part of the finale from last week. Carlos heads off to do some reckless shit, but luckily he’s stopped, and we have our wedding. Later, Strand has to watch his half-brother die, at the request of his half-brother who doesn’t want to live with Huntingtons or be a burden to his family. props to Gina Torres who has a nice voice and sings. Being Alive from Company at the end of the episode.

Final Grade: A-

2/3) Jeopardy Masters (ABC/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ken Says it’s Coming Back Next year

i actually did double duty on this. I watched Tuesday’s episode, the second episode of the semifinals that gave us our 4th place finisher, and then watched the finals live. No real reason to grade these episodes separately, and I’m very happy with the winner. No spoilers from me.

Episodes Grades: A-

1) Ted Lasso (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Final Season

i literally called the finale. I called it way back at the beginning of the season, when they were telegraphing it so hard, and ever since then, the chips have fallen into place. I’m still working on whether or not Rebecca gets her happy ending, but Ted is very much leaving. I’ve heard some rumors that there could be a spinoff, and since it is entirely possible that everyone could stay but Ted, they might try that. I still think that would be a mistake. It didn’t work that well for The office. Sure, every once in a while it was funny, but no one thinks the show got better, or stayed just as good without michael Scott. I’m happy to see these guys win, and Ted go home to his kid.

Episode Grade: A
