The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/22/23

Yesterday, I had the awesome opportunity to attend a panel at the American Concil of the Blind’s virtual conference presented by the Audio Description Project that featured reps from the major streaming services, all of whom came to talk about just how committed they are, without actually putting a number on that commitment. I’m committed to cleaning my room. When? How often? I’m committed.

So I didn’t watch as many shows. But on the plus side, hulu is moving forward with a second season of nine Perfect Strangers, which should be fun since they already used all the strangers from the book. I’m assuming it’ll feel a little like the second season of Big Little Lies.

7) The Adventures Of The Gummi Bears (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

I do love the voice work on the show. I’m now eight episodes in to a series I adored as a child. Not every nostalgic trip is working out for me this year, though I promised myself I’d get to 10 first before giving up.

Episode Grade: C+

6) Dave (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not yet Renewed

There was one really funny joke in this seasons 7th episode, and I told myself “don’t forget that, you can write about that”, and then i forgot about it.

Episode Grade: C+

5) Family Matters (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

A nice showcase for Reginald Veljohnson as Carl, who showed off a lot of comedic range when Carl decides to press Eddie into training harder on the basketball court. I can’t tell if Darius McCrary’s acting is just representative of actors his age in shows like this during his time period, or if he’s just a bad actor. That’s the only thing that doesn’t work for me. Keep him out of the serious stuff.

4) Somebody Somewhere (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

I like that this show is like watching indie television. Like, it’s the unofficial TV show of Sundance. That’s what it feels like. It has a lot of promise, and I think a lot of people love it more than I do.

Episode Grade: B

3) Citadel (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

So there’s only six episodes a season? What the heck? i think Stanley Tucci is having a lot of fun here, and the show has potential, but it feels like we’re cutting the momentum short.

Episode Grade: B+, Season 1 Grade: B+

2) The Big Door prize (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

There was almost a threesome. But,instead we had a revelation about who had the liar card, and their confession doesn’t go over so well to the person it seems to hurt the most. Meanwhile, the coach gets “cheater”, and even though he swears he’s just cheating on his wife, apparently that’s grounds for termination. Maybe this show will start to get to the deeper dangers of this machine.

Episode Grade: A-

1) The Night Agent (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

in the season’s penultimate hour, we really start to figure out just how nefarious some people are willing to be for power.Sadly, it would appear Eric did not survive that last episode. But, the remaining heroes race to stop the latest attempt, and i have to admit… it’s a good one. It almost makes up for some of the questionable acting, or all the stuff they had going on with the assassins. Almost.
