The Too Much TV Lineup- 08/13/23

Zachary Levi made a comment about the studios pushing out crappy product. Look inside yourself Zachary, and you too will find the solution. Perhaps, the guy starring in the Spy Kids reboot shouldn’t maybe complain too much. Just a thought.

8) Foundation (Apple plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

The only show that makes me feel stupid. The audio description is great, and the show poses a lot of really interesting questions, but holy hell is this a bitch to follow. I went back a season and rewatched The Witcher and outlander for better context, and the reason I didn’t do that here was the plot description mentions a massive time jump. That doesn’t really seem to change anything, as I think all the same characters are still alive. I thought this would allow for new perspective, but even with elaborate audio description, this is a bitch to follow. Watch at your own peril.

Final Grade: B-?

7) 7) Designing Women (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Annie Potts stands up to a man used to getting his way with women, if you get the drift. It’s an interesting episode, because this is so far before the Me2 movement, so the ladies don’t immediately run for the hills or use social media. if anything, some of the gang seem not bothered by pott’s story. Weird episode. It ends well though.

Episode Grade: B-

6) Special Ops: Lioness (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: not Yet Renewed (but Taylor Sheridan non-limited shows have never been cancelled after one season)

Zoe Saldana stars as the head of a special task force that recruits women to place in proximity of wives and daughters of terrorists so they can learn their locations. They are supposed to befriend them. The opening goes horribly wrong, but that allows us to meet a new recruit, who is a badass with shitty friends and boyfriend, who could use the Marines to change her life. The first episode moves so quick, it doesn’t really answer many questions, and I’m not really sure I have a total grasp on the requirements of this world. Maybe that’s how Sheridan wants it. Nicole Kidman pops up in the pilot for one scene. The action scenes are well shot. This might be AI audio description, but I need more episodes to really find out.

Episode Grade: B

5) Seaquest DSV (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: No

The second part of the premiere showed Roy Scheider getting his ship out of the danger zone, and becoming more interested in staying. This show could use AD, but this is just a nostalgic trip from my childhood right now.

Episode Grade: B+

4) Minx (Starz)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Not Yet Renewed

Thanks, Starz for saving this show. HBO did it dirty. It was renewed, then the renewal was reversed. The problem we now have, is that Starz has zero accessibility, so they saved a show whose first season had audio description, and now does not. This could be easily solvable, but in my currrent interactions with reps from Starz, I’m not sure audio description is a priority. I still love Minx though.Episode Grade: B+

Episode Grade: B+

3) Twisted Metal (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

Hopefully, this will get a renewal. It makes me hopeful for franchises like Grand Theft Auto, that we might one day get a screen version of them. Anthony Mackie is great, and the pilot does enough explaining if you are unfamiliar with the series. I never played a single game before, and I enjoyed this. Yes, I believe this is an AI audio description.

Episode Grade: A-

2) Veep (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

Selina actually has Tony Hale break up with her boyfriend for her. She also seems to figure out how to fix everything, and Jonah is extra obnoxious.

Episode Grade: A

1) What We Do In The Shadows (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

The season premiere has audio description on Hulu! For the win! We pick up where we left off, where Guillermo is struggling with how to tell his Masters that he’s turning into a vampire… at a very slow rate.

Episode Grade: A
