The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/25/23

I kinda mentioned how the season finale of Doogie Kamaloha felt like a series finale with her not choosing either of the guys, and instead choosing herself. Disney Plus has cancelled the show. I think we all knew they would. It’s a shame, because they have such a hard time launching a new series that isn’t Marvel or Star Wars. Doogie joins a couple other Disney Plus shows that only get to a second season, including The Mysterious Benedict Society, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, Diary Of A Future President, and Big Shot. Since its inception, the only two shows to make it to a third season on Disney plus have been high School Musical: The Series and The Mandalorian.

9) Outlander (Starz)

English Audio Description?: no

Status: Final Season

As I catch up on Season 6, I’m kinda remembering it, and how I wasn’t a fan of this plot where Jamie supposedly took advantage of a girl, and now things have taken an even darker turn when his wife is now accused of murder. Outlander is one of those shows that could seriously use audio description. I’m literally having to watch episodes a second time. i shouldn’t have to do that.

Episode Grade: C+

8) Hoff The Récord (BritBox)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

This episode got weird, when the actor who once was playing David basically kidnaps the Hoff and the kid for a wild ride, which also leads to headlines about the hoff having kidnapped a child.

Episode Grade: C+

7) The Good Wife (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

While the medical trial at the center was interesting, I didn’t like that they pulled the trigger on Will/Alicia in Season 1. It now muddies that dynamic, and it should have been something that felt more earned. Later, Alicia reminds him that he is her boss, and I’m surprised someone had to remind him of the power differential.

Episode Grade: B

6) All In The Family (FreeVee)

English Audio Description?: no

Status: Ended

Everyone but Archie wants to play this new game. He thinks it’s stupid because the first question he got was “what’s your favorite body part?”, to which he clearly was thinking something specific.

Episode Grade: B+

5) Cheers (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Before the episode played, even though I have the No/Limited ads tier, I was treated to a teaser for the Frasier revival. This was a Thanksgiving episode, and i still have no idea what they are doing with Diane. it feels like the writers are trying to get her to quit. She’s easily the least likable character in the show, and she’s an immensely talented actress. I did not expect to see Vera. I thought she would remain an off screen reference, but she really did pop in at the end, very briefly.

Episode Grade: B+

4) Harley Quinn (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: not Yet Renewed

Harley is still learning how to be a hero, this time from Alfred. Meanwhile, ivy is replacing all the male trees in the city as part of her master plan. And Talia Al-Ghul shows up. Meanwhile, in the character most deserving of a spinoff, Bane spends the episode trying to fix a pasta maker.

Episode Grade: A-

3) Glamorous (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

While some people are tasked with choosing between two guys, just as the Pride campaign is about to launch, Madeline finds out that Vendemeer has been spying on her. Is it her driver? Or someone else? Either way, they certainly devise a plan of Mackinley. But, when Madeline refuses to listen to reason, she throws out a nasty comment that may have cost her her biggest ally… and her company?

Episode Grade: A

2) What We Do In The Shadows (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

This show is having fun exploring Guillermo’s quasi-vampiric nature, while Sean also decides it’s high time to throw a pride parade, with his best friends and neighbors as the Grand Marshals. Also, what happens between Nadja, Colin, and Nadja’s Doll is wickedly absurd.

Episode Grade: A

1) Jack Ryan (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Final Season

Well, that’s a wrap. I’m surprised this only ran for four seasons, but John Krasinski is busy. They perfectly wrap up the storyline, and gave Jack one hell of a moment in a Senate hearing at the end. Meanwhile, if you’re sad at the idea of the end of Jack Ryan… I really hope you enjoyed michael Pena this season, because the show will be continuing with him. It obviously can’t be called Jack Ryan anymore, but this is kinda like when Kyra Sedgwick left The Closer, and it became Major Crimes, with a new lead, but the rest of the cast stayed.

Episode Grade: A+, Season 4 Grade: A, Series Grade: A- (I wasn’t a huge fan of Season 2, but 1, 3, and 4 were great).
