The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/20/23

I’m not sure anything major happened in the realm of television yesterday, but I will mention that MAX is rushing The Nun 2 onto the service before Halloween. I was pretty busy, so it’s a short list today.

5) 5) Shelter (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

These shows where adults unleash massive conspiracies where teens have to uncover and save the day is just a very odd thing we do in film and television. This show is a lot for these kids. I honestly found more enjoyment in the Phantom auditions, although I call shenanigans. The Music Theatre professional in me wondered who those hecklers were, as that’s not a thing. The cool jocks don’t show up to audition for Phantom, and then sit and heckle others. If that’s what is happening in this school, we have a new mystery to solve. Also, the fuck is that song choice? I’m guessing he wants Phantom, but you couldn’t sing something that was actually a duet? Why they didn’t sing All I Ask Of you is beyond me.

4) Strange planet (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Unknown

This quirky show tackled birthdays, feeling unaccomplished, and wearables. It was cute. Sometimes, I want a bit more than just cute.

Episode Grade: B

3) Young Love (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

I’m not sure who this show is for yet, adults or kids, but I thought this mostly worked, as we learned about procrastination.Trying to achieve your bucket list in one day though is a bit much.

Episode Grade: B+

2) Solar Opposites (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Hopefully Renewed

Hulu, which just raised its prices, in its infinite wisdom tried to make me go back two episodes. I’m not sure why, but it’s also started not disappearing shows from my Continue Watching after I’m done with them. This is what you get when you pay premium prices now. Shittty service. This episode about entering the stock verse was funny, and we even touched base with the wall people.

Episode Grade: A-

1) Loki (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

Loki and Mobius start by tracking Miss Minutes to a turn of the century worlds fair, where they end up running into a He Who Remains variant. This episode was so well conceived, so quirky, and fully embraced the period it was in that it is my favorite of the whole season. I also love this version of He Who Remains.

Episode Grade: A+
