The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/02/23

Nothing too big in the TV world. The CW confirmed what we already assumed, that this is the final season of The CW… I mean… Superman and Lois. It marks the final show to be cancelled in the once dominant DC Arrowverse that started with the Stephen Amell led series, and birthed spinoffs The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, Superman and Lois, and arguably also Stargirl and Swamp Thing, though those were originally created for DC’s streaming service. The new CW seems less interested in making their own programming, and instead repurposing Canadian, British, and Australian shows.

9) The Golden Girls (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

Sorry, but this was basically a clip show, wrapped in a conversation between Dorothy and Sophia. I despise clip shows.

Episode Grade: C

8) The Hardy Boys (Hulu)

English Audio Description: Yes

Status: Final Season

I definitely think the team behind The Hardy Boys assumed they had more seasons, as this final season seems to be rushing now, and just throwing things at the wall.Do these boys think they can bring their mother back from the dead? Why do they keep trusting the wrong people? I did love the scene where Chet and Belinda straight up told the 100% truth about what happened and it sounded utterly insane.

Episode Grade: C+

7) Cheers (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

In the second of a two parter about not dating shady hockey players, we get resolution on why not. I learn all my important social cues from television sitcoms.

Episode Grade: B-

6) Young Sheldon (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

Sheldon’s parents are having a tiff, but I love Sheldon’s line that was he was the glue that held this family together. Yes, and also the only reason these characters exist. But, really, you can thank Jim Parsons for that.

Episode Grade: B

5) Quantum Leap (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

I don’t want to say that Magic’s storyline about being an alcoholic, and struggling with that addiction, along with the history lesson about the terrible things he’s experienced weren’t impactful, but I do think we kinda sanitized and breezed through the LA Riots. As Ben leaps into a young Korean kid who has to convince his stubborn father to not be killed in the riots, we don’t really get a clear look, or a challenging look at this time period. It would have been perhaps more impactful if Ben had leapt into an officer, who had to convince his fellow officers to not use lethal force.

Episode Grade:B

4) Still Up (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Unknown

Our lead characters come closer to realizing their love is bubbling under as one ruins his date by talking about the other the whole night, and the other has a terribly droll boyfriend who is unforgivably boring.

Episode Grade: B

3) All The Light We Cannot See (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited

The best-selling novel has been adapted into a 4 part limited series directed by Shawn Levy (Night At The Museum, The Adam Project, Cheaper By The Dozen, Free Guy), and features a young blind woman in WWWII who is broadcasting secretly on her radio channel, and the nazi codebreaker who is fascinated with her broadcasts. Mark Ruffalo and Hugh Laurie bring recognizable names, but offer very little. Most of this is carried by an actress in her debut performance, playing the lead role of Marie. There’s also a rather stupid plot featuring a different nazi trying to find a stone that will grant him immortality.

Episode Grade: B

2) Celebrity Jeopardy (Hulu)

English Audio Descritpion?: No

Status: Unknown

Sheryl Underwood, Dule hill, and Peter Facinelli are locked in a battle of the minds. A fairly entertaining episode that got bonus points for hill taking an opportunity to show his tap dancing skills off. Tap is the one dance we can appreciate fully without audio description, and I was pretty impressed.

Episode Grade: B+

1) Wilderness (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: This Must Be Limited

The case is still happening, and our lead gets a visit from her mom, who gives her solid advice. Also, he’s probably been sleeping with more than one side chick. The episode takes a darker turn, when Garth shows up, and he’s there for some answers.

Episode Grade: B+
