Suncoast

It’s not totally fair to write off an early in the year Hulu debut. They did drop Ry Lane around this time last year,so Suncoast had every opportunity to be good. Ruth’s title really evoked nostalgia in me, as I was definitely *that kid* who hung out in Suncoast at the mall. The store that had all the movie memorabilia. Those were my people. But, that isn’t the Suncoast. The Suncoast in the film is actually a real place, or based on a real place, because this semi-autobiographical coming of age drama is about a teenage girl Nico Parker) whose … Continue reading Suncoast

The People Vs Larry Flynt

More of my Oscar Shame, though this one I’m less ashamed of. I wasn’t old enough to se this on my own when it first came out, and it just became a matter of never catching up on this double nominee. Nominated for Best Director for Milos Foreman and Actor for Woody Harrelson, it is easy to write this film off as inconsequential. In fact, I assume that is why it doesn’t have audio description on Paramount Plus. but, ultimately, the film is very much about free speech, whether you agree with that speech or not. And that is the … Continue reading The People Vs Larry Flynt

The exciting TV news for the day? Night Court has axed Neil. of course, with my limited time, I was planning on axing Night Court anyway. Also, expect even less day and date releases in 2023, since the strikes pushed back a lot of films on the 2023 calendar. Now they are worried that 2023 could be a really slow year at the movies. Well, maybe you should have stopped trying to replace everyone with AI. 1) Neon (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Not Yet Renewed Santi pushes his crew further away as he chooses his fake alliance with … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/28/23

Nothing too big in the TV world. The CW confirmed what we already assumed, that this is the final season of The CW… I mean… Superman and Lois. It marks the final show to be cancelled in the once dominant DC Arrowverse that started with the Stephen Amell led series, and birthed spinoffs The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, Superman and Lois, and arguably also Stargirl and Swamp Thing, though those were originally created for DC’s streaming service. The new CW seems less interested in making their own programming, and instead repurposing Canadian, British, and Australian shows. 9) … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/02/23

Best Buy announced they will no longer be selling physical media after this holiday season. That breaks my heart. I have a massive physical media collection of DVD’s and BluRay’s, and before losing my vision, I used to love to hit up Best Buy on Black Friday, run in and grab a ton of new entries to my collection for cheap. Now, I’m all worried about whether or not something has audio description, which shockingly not every disc does. 12) Chip and Dale’s Rescue Rangers (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended It’s not down here because of quality, … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/14/23

So AMPTPA walked away from SAG talks all pissy, because SAG didn’t make the deal. look, the studios had a lot of way more specific deals to iron out with SAG than the WGA and DGA, and saying you offered them the same deal is impossible. Did you commit to having hairstylists on set who are able to properly style ethnic hair? Did you guarantee the safety of extras on set? Did you agree to stop trying to scan everyone and stop owning their likeness in perpetuity? I bet if these negotiations were available for regular folk to watch, AMPTPA … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/11/23

A tentative deal has been reached between the studios and the writers. The details have yet to be made public, but should be shortly as the membership has to vote on it. An official vote by leadership happens on Tuesday, which will solidify this a bit more, and possibly allow some writers to return to work. Most writers will have to wait until the contract is fully ratified by the WGA as a whole, but writers for talk shows are expected to resume possibly later this week, as all they need is for Tuesday’s vote to pass. 11) Daryl Dixon … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/24/23

If all you have is Network TV, tonight you are in luck. CBS begins airing the first season of Yellowstone. Give it a looksie. Also, later in the week, look out for the season premiere of the new season of American Horror Story, as well as the final season of Sex Education. 12) Boy Meets World (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended I could have skipped this episode. It’s just this weird Halloween themed episode where Cory thinks he’s turning into a werewolf. However, it does bring Topanga back who hasn’t had anything to do in Season 2, … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/16/23

I forgot Spectrum was Charter, so watching the people in my Facebook feed complaining about not being able to watch their games yesterday was fun. Hilariously, they all blamed Spectrum, and not ESPN. It’s sort of like the studios don’t realize how many people in this country are against them in the strike. They try to make it seem like an A-list actor wants more money, but most people know not to trust the CEO with the mega yacht. 11) Justified (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Revival Just Finished I’m close to finishing Season 3. I just saw some encouraging news for fans of Twisted Metal. The debut of that series (which I will start soon) is considered to be Peacock’s most watched comedy original thus far. So if you wanted a second season, there’s a good chance. Then again, FOX did cancel and ship off their most watched series because it was too expensive, so there’s that. 13) 8 Simple Rules (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended Considering a large chunk of what makes this episode funny is some physical comedy from john Ritter, I’d say his storyline didn’t work for me. … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/09/23

While I watch these older shows, I can’t help but think how much better they would be with audio description, and I want a world where we also prioritize the back catalog of TV shows as well as films. I also get sad when i think of a show I’d watch again that isn’t on a streaming service. Today’s highlight: American Dreams. Ran for 3 seasons on NBC, and launched the career of Brittany Snow. I miss that show. 14) Hey Dude (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended Hey Dude was one of the live action shows thrown … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/05/23

Emmy Nominations and a SAG strike are both upon us. 8) The Crowded Room (Apple Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited Humor me. If there was no shooting at the beginning, and this was just Seyfried interrogating holland, and learning about his past, with holland occasionally being confused as to why he was there, would you still be watching this? Or, are you hoping the ending will make it worth it? Are you watching simply because the stars are good? Because, this show isn’t a slow burn. I always enjoy being able to drop some TV knowledge at the top. Freeform has cancelled The Watchful Eye and Single Drunk Female. Neither one of these had audio description. So, no love lost. 16) Clone High (MAX) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Rumored To Have Been A Two Season Order This was tough to declare a loser on a day where I managed 16 different episodes, but as Clone High continues to underdeveloped the new characters and keep them as far away from their original non-clones as possible, it really makes you wonder what the point of all this … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/30/23

Before my TV news, I have to say that I always enjoy looking at the list of who has just been offered an Academy voting membership each year. To me, there’s always some hilarious comparison of someone who is obviously getting it really early, versus someone who has somehow flown under the water. You would think that considering neither of these actors were nominated last year that Bill Hader and Raul Castillo, for example, would not be getting offered membership in the same year. It makes it feel late for Hader, and early for Castillo. I always understand that those … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/28/23
