The Small Screen Diaries: 05/10/26

Some news came down the pike yesterday that Marvel confirmed that Season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again will have a time jump. How big? One year. You know, how long it is naturally between seasons. They are oddly adapting a Daredevil comic titled The Devil In Cell Block D, where Matt has to deal with being in prison at Rikers, and also having everyone know he’s Daredevil. The problem is, in the comic book, he’s in there with Kingpin, and the show decidedly went in a different direction. So who is coming back? The Defenders. Someone has to fight crime on the outside, and while The Punisher can’t be confirmed for anything until after Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Marvel has confirmed that joining Jessica Jones next season will be Luke Cage, but also Iron Fist. They’ve even teased an intention to return Elektra, which Elodie Yung has been campaigning for on social media.

From- The mystery deepens with the Man In The Yellow Jacket, as Victor tells Henry why he’s so afraid, and Julie Storywalks back and sees him.Boyd is haunted by a ring, Fatima is tapping into religion as she still feels connected to the thing she gave birth to, Sarah is hearing voices again, and Tabitha follows her son to to look for the Lake Of Tears, which may have a surprise for all of them. The AD here was great. One question for the writers. How is it that in Season 4, we still have characters we don’t know? Some random guy finds the hose in the ground. This isn’t a big city with a ton of residents. He probably lives in Colony House. How many Red Shirts can possibly remain?

Lord Of THe Flies- The kids are good actors, but I don’t love the adaptation, nor do I like the AD. It is grating on me, as it isn’t mixed well, and affects the overall quality of presentation. The third episode is Simon’s episode, for anyone who read the book.

Paradise- Man, as we were going through the flashback, I could totally see that twist coming. The mild-mannered mailman. The only surprise I got was that Enus had actually destroyed the radio, which I thought was being blamed on him. It’s funny how Xavier clocks that his wife didn’t fully trust him, based on meeting the couple.Nice AD, good episode.

Breaking Bad- Slowly working my way through. Walt and Jesse’s lives are on the line as Walt needs Jesse to kill Gale so he’s the only chemist who can make the meth. Still great AD from Diane Newman and DVW.

Your Friends And Neighbors- I’m not crazy about the show, but Jon Hamm. Is good in it. I wonder if the season will get any better. I know they have roped James Marsden in, but really, cast additions only go so far if the problem is still in the writing. Something about this never sits right, and I’m not a huge fan of Amanda Peet in this either. It feels like a show Hamm is carrying. The AD is OK. PixelLogic I believe.

Landman- I pensively watched the season finale of Landman, which was full of tying up loose ends. And, they are loosely going there with that giant age gap between Sam Elliot and his love interest. The series ends in a way that basically gives the show no reason to return Demi Moore for a third season. I still wish the show had better writers, but Rebecca had an excellent scene that was way over the top, and Ainsley even had a nice moment. A lot of the women are just here as playthings through the eyes of the male characters, but occasionally they do meaningful work.

Celebrity Jeopardy- Mira Sorvino seemed to have quite a few questions connected to her in some way. Another actress who did a run on Chicago. That musical is just existing and surviving on guest runs, with talent. Currently, the role Oscar Winner Mira Sorvino proudly played is being played by one of the Mormon Wives. Whitney Levitt. So, perspective. I’m sure she’s happy she got to be on Broadway for a hot minute, but when they start casting reality stars like Whitney and Ariana Maddox, it becomes a little less impactful. The AD here is TTS, and totally useless. I forget it is even there. Ray Romano answered a question with a hand gesture, which the AD didn’t even try to describe, as probably one of the only unique visual moments of the entire episode. The writing is probably also AI.
