Someone went and listened to my podcast on Spotify. I appreciate you. Also, Netflix just greenlit a sequel to War Machine, and Amazon scrapped their plans to reboot Stargate.

Mating Season- The pilot is great, but it feels like all the jokes are coming fast, and I don’t know what longevity look like here. The creators of Big Mouth take their shenanigans to the woods, where animals do it. A lot. It is very creative and clever, and is far less awkward than watching kids exploring sexuality on Big Mouth. I never could get into that. This? Sure. But I can’t see it running forever. The AD is a mess, of no fault to the team. It’s IDC, and I’m pretty sure this is the same narrator who does Rick And Morty, but there is almost no room, that we just don’t get enough description, but there’s also very few places to put it because they never stop talking.
Free Bert- The sitcom that made me like Bert. I thought he was a bit one note as a standup, and this show gives him story and range like a lot of other comedians have gotten with similar shows. The AD here is the same team that just did The Boroughs.
Rooster- Rooster is nervous about his ex-wife coming to campus, his ringtone being changed, hooking up with someone and keeping it a secret, and this weird tension he now has with the one he does like, Dylan. Meanwhile, his daughter is struggling with how to cut herself free of her ex, whose pregnant girlfriend is also trying to figure things out for herself. The AD here is nice. I like this show, and as far as Emmy love, there should be some focus on John C McGinley, who breezed through Scrubs so he could spend more time in a role that fits him like a glove.
Widows Bay- Matthew Rhys has to avoid the Sea Hag as tourists start to come to Widows Bay. Stephen Root is a clear standout in this ensemble too, another supporting actor standout. How Apple hasn’t picked this up yet is baffling. It is so buzzy.
Scarpetta- Moving into the second episode, it feels like the time jumps are affecting Kidman’s ability to be the lead of her own show, because I think we spend more time right now in the past than we need to.The heavy hitters are all in the present day timeline, and Scarpetta needs to be doing more of a 60/40 in their favor than it is. People came for Kidman, Curtis, and Cannavale. Otherwise, the show is well done.
The Daily Show- Jon sat down with Jason Bateman to get some Emmy love for the lesser of his two shows.Jason, Black Rabbit was better.
Dutton Ranch- Rip finds a sick cow at the same time Beth is taking some meat to a fancy cook in Dallas. Tell me these things aren’t related.Oriana is going to be a problem, and one of Rip’s men has a past he deeply regrets. The AD here is very good, especially when Beulah is creeping through that house. I thought something was going to jump out. I need my Beth back, the one who wouldn’t think twice about setting the world on fire. Why is she so passive?
