The Night Agent- A full tilt finale, which took me a while to get to, but it is done. Peter gets one more season, and perhaps a partner. Since they are bringing Rose back, it could be her, or Chelsea, or Adam, but the show leaves that question unanswered. At least he gets his Razmatazz. I feel like Peter needed a much stronger apology than he got at the end, as did Chelsea.IDC did nice audio description all season.
Criminal Record- The shit hit the fan last episode, and I truly don’t understand how two of the three people that close to the bomb survived. But most of this episode is June figuring out how the thing was rigged earlier than she realized, and shutting it down. Now she’s in charge, and doing things by the book, but with a potentially rogue asset, is this a case that needs to be done by the book, or by any means necessary? A solid crime drama with good audio description.
Ghosts- It had an early Season 6 renewal, so. I knew I didn’t need to cram it, so I’m slowly catching up. This was an Alberta heavy episode, with the Todd Pod being a hot new podcast from her number one fan. The AD is from Media Access, and is just the same. They try to make the most out of their format, but sitcoms are hard. Ghosts is. Certainly above average in its description.
Off Campus-Hannah makes things complicated, which we see play out in a very strange rave/Midsummer’s Nights Dream restaging. These kids make it look like for fun, they go to the club and put on sexy Shakespeare. The popularity of this show continues on as it performs very well for Amazon.
Malcolm In The Middle- Thank God it’s over. It did not know what to do with only four episodes, bringing back as much fan bait as possible, while forging new stories in the passage of time. I wanted more for the wonderful Jane Kazmarek, and every time someone suggests Bryan Cranston for an Emmy nomination, I consider that a failing of this series to not have also given Kazmareck material worthy of landing awards buzz. She was also quite iconic the first time around, she just didn’t get Breaking Bad after, and an Oscar nomination. The audio description was fine for this format, as again, there are worse sitcom AD tracks out there.
RJ Decker-well, remember a few weeks ago when I welcomed the presence of the wonderful David Zayas? Yeah. Well. Um. They didn’t take my note. Will I watch RJ Decker in the fall? Probably not. This format is saturated with better like minded shows (High Potential and Will Trent have to wait till midseason so RJ Decker can find its legs in the fall). Too many shows, and this never impressed me much. I still never felt like I got the answer to what makes RJ different or special. Why him? Plus, I’m pretty sure the audio description is TTS.
Abbott Elementary- They hired a new writer, obviously. This new writer started indicating the talking head moments by having Vito actually say “talking head” before someone spoke. I’m not going to push back, as it is an attempt at providing more meaningful audio description for this show, and I’d like to encourage this writer to continue to look at Abbott and think constructively what else they could do to elevate the description? Oh, and as for the plot, something big happens this episode. I won’t spoil it.
