TV Shows Watched: Citadel: Season 2 (Amazon) with audio description, Stranger Things: Tales From 85 (Netflix) with audio description, Life Larry and the Pursuit Of Unhappyness: S1E6 (HBO MAX) and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire: S5E3 (Disney Plus) with audio description
Citadel- I did review this yesterday, so check it out. Also, if you were thinking about watching the second season of Citadel, and have pushed it down your watchlist, move it up before someone ruins that finale for you. Jaw dropped. I couldn’t go enough into it in my review, but the show takes a really big swing in that finale, which will have major repercussions moving forward. The AD here is Media Access, and I think Inger Tutor? Amazon never let me watch the credits all the way. That is my guess though. Either way, it was a solid track, full of action.
Stranger Things: Tales From 85- A show I liked at the beginning and hated by the end, but has lovely audio description from International Digital Center and Jamie Lemcheck. I can’t endorse the show, but I can thumbs up the audio description.
Life Larry and the Pursuit Of Unhappyness- Finally I laughed. Some of the cast got in a few good one-liners in the final segment. The guy who touted that he was a great businessman because he employed over 120 children made me audibly chuckle. The description here has no real space to breathe in, so it can’t ever feel like a lot.
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire- at one point, I thought I had gaslit myself into believing the episode started with AD, because it was missing so many obvious choices.I really fucking hate how they refuse to tell you what the 50/50 split is, every time. This track is synthetic garbage from VerbIt. The thing is, if Pop Culture Jeopardy hadn’t been done so well by two companies across Amazon/Netflix, I might just assume this is the best this format can ever have, but competent companies prove meaningful audio description is possible for a game show. VerbIt isn’t interested in meaningful audio description. Cash that check, let the algorithm do the rest.
Best AD: Stranger Things Tales From 85- I don’t endorse the show, but the track itself is great.
Worst: Who Wants To Be A Millionaire- Hot garbage.
