TV Shows Watched: Ted Lasso: S4E5 (Apple) with audio description, Elle: S1E7 (Amazon) with audio description, Black Clover: S1E3 (CrnuchyRoll) with audio description, and The Comeback: S2E6 (HBO MAX) with audio description
Ted Lasso- i feel like they are trying really hard to justify Roy’s presence in the show. Other than that, it is nice to have Ted and his mostly cheery and friendly disposition back. This is still a very well written show, even if it isn’t flying as high as the first three seasons. I also like the AD here, which I can’t say about every show on this list.
Elle- I found the police station sequence really confusing, as. To who was getting up and getting a drink. I thought Elle and her Mom did, but then the AD made it sound like Elle and Liz did. Aside from that scene, I got it all. And, I knew this was what was going to happen, but I did expect Elle’s mom to have a bit more of an “oh shit” moment. I do love lines like “because neither of us are lawyers”. Give it time. media Access group did this track.
Black Clover- I really don’t like the AD to The Comeback, even if I feel like I recognize that voice. but if you plan on using synthetic narration, you’d best bring it. Don’t fuck around. the code narrating this didn’t know how to pronounce “horison” (sic), because the writer typed it that way. So it read it as such, where a human writer likely would have assumed the word was misspelled and by default pronounced it horizon, based on instinct and context. that did not happen, because this is not human.
The Comeback- It is just deeply inadequate every episode. Even for the format. I have yet to watch an episode of this and be remotely impressed by it.
Best: Ted Lasso- Only one I had no issues with.
Worst: Black Clover- If a human had been used, not only would the performance likely be better, but we’d also be spared the knowledge of a spelling error to begin with. Now I know, the writers for Black Clover don’t have spell check, and no one QC’d their AD tracks. It’s far more revealing than one might think.
