Knock At The Cabin

Where I Watched it: peacock English Audio Description?: Yes The elephant in this cabin is that this is a M Night Shyamalan movie. So, if you know that, you are probably here not wanting any twists or turns spoiled for you. unfortunately, it makes it really hard to discuss the film, and why I didn’t like it. So, I’ll offer my grade upfront, and say that I thought the audio description for this film was adequate. if you want to know more, read on after the grade. Final Grade: D+ OK. So, now I feel like I have free reign … Continue reading Knock At The Cabin

Matchstick Men

Where I Watched It?: Apple Plus English Audio Description?: No Excuse me for my tardiness. I do believe that Apple has moved on to a newer set of licensed titles. i noticed a while back that they were offering anywhere from 3-6 films made by other studios along with their subscription, and with this being the 20th anniversary of Matchstick Men, i figured I’d roll the dice. After all, i think this is a very underrated Ridley Scott film. yes, the least Ridley Scott film is actually a Ridley Scott film. This is mostly about con artists, and a man … Continue reading Matchstick Men

Crammed some stuff into a busy day. Let’s see how it shakes out. 7) Perry Mason (HBo MAX) English Audio Description?: Yes It’s like the show I want to like, but just can’t sometimes. Sometimes, it’s just so slow, or it has filled itself with a lot of character building that has nothing to do with the actual case, but helps flesh out the series regulars. It just ends up boring me and challenging my patience and ability to stay awake. Episode Grade: C+ 6) The Masked Singer (FOX) English Audio Description?: no What a weird theme night. The magic … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 04/08/23

Downsizing

Where I Watched It: Amazon English Audio Description?: Yes I missed this one when it came out. It’s a perfect example of a good on paper Oscar contender that ends up not really materializing into anything. For a while, as the campaign stripped away, it looked like hong Chou might get a supporting nomination, but that never panned out. Years later, and I’m finally watching Alexander Payne’s odd social commentary…with audio description! And, human audio description on Amazon! There are miracles. They do happen. Matt Damon leads an ensemble cast in a quirky comedy about a future where we have … Continue reading Downsizing

Netflix cancelled Sex/Life. I was surprised when that show got a second season order to begin with. 5) Velma (HBO MAX) English Audio Description?: Yes Weirdly, the 9th episode feels deflated. It felt to me like they were trying really really hard to stretch to 10 episodes, and did so using the 9th episode. So much so, that the episode ends in a cliffhanger with a character saying “I remember who the killer is!” Lord. Episode Grade: C+ 4) That 90’s Show (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes I always write about the goings on of everybody’s least favorite replacement memberberries … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 04/07/23

Well, one of my cancellation predictions came true. FOX has pronounced time of death on The Resident to be six seasons. 5) Top Chef (Bravo/Peacock) English Audio Description?: No So, I’m gonna tank one of my long time favorites this week. I thought the way this episode handled a contestant having a severe allergic reaction was a bit callous. They use the drama of the moment just enough to mention it, and have another contestant call for concern, but at no time do we hear anyone from the production team or medical stepping in to make sure her throat doesn’t … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 04/06/23

I had a great time last night talking audio description with a group of industry officials who love it as much as I do. I’m grateful for the opportunity, and hope to continue to talk about expanding this accessibility whenever and wherever I can. 5) 5) 911 Lone Star (FOX/Hulu) English Audio Description?: No There was a scene where Mateo was slowly devolving into madness that I got totally lost. Trippy sequences that don’t really make sense in the normal order are even harder to follow without audio description. So, I guess he was getting blasted, and suddenly his life … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 04/05/23

No major TV news yesterday that i caught, except that Showtime has already removed all episodes of the L Word: Generation Q from their service. Hope you weren’t behind. I am being featured tonight in a discussion with some audio description heavy hitters that I feel blessed to be a part of. The conversation is on LinkedIn. I finally had to join LinkedIn for this. hah. 7) Shadow and Bone (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes This was just a terribly competitive day. It’s not that I dislike this show, even though it sits at 7th, but rather that it ranks … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 04/04/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 04/03/23

Since there are still some network bubble shows, and I have a bit of room today to talk about what I think will or won’t be back, I figured I’d take a look really quick before beginning the roundup. So if you read today, it’s a bonus for you. CBS: They only have three shows still waiting to hear. True Lies will be cancelled. I believe it is the lowest rated CBS scripted. East New York has been a moderate performer, and it’s my understanding that the biggest concern is over streaming rights. Basically, CBS wants to be able to … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 04/03/23

I definitely watched a few less shows today, but a few of these are their first episodes (or at least the season premiere). 5) Reindogs (HBO MAX) English Audio Description?: Yes This Brit import turned out to be a comedy, which I found surprising, since its linear time slot follows Perry Mason. Now, I’m so confused as to who at HBO thought this paired well with Perry Mason, or if they even cared. Maybe they’re burning off episodes of something they have no intention of giving a second season. Who knows. I wasn’t expecting a comedy, and i got something … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 04/02/23

The BoxTrolls

Where I Watched it: Netflix English Audio Description?: Yes I missed this one when I could still see. I can’t really remember why. I enjoy most stop motion animation, and this one did have critical acclaim. Something tells me it wasn’t in theatres very long, though that wouldn’t have stopped me from getting this on Redbox. So, I have no excuse. My first foray into this absolutely bonkers animated feature is with audio description. I think there’s something beautiful about the stop motion process, and it’s hard to really capture that with audio description. Sometimes, magic is just magic, and … Continue reading The BoxTrolls

We are already a quarter of the way through the year. Based on how fast I review films thus far, I’ll see 80 films this year. Of course, I know I’ll see more, but it’s crazy how slow accumulating that at the beginning of the year really is. 7) History Of The World Part 2 (Hulu) English Audio Description?: Yes There were times in the first episode that the comedy did feel in the style of Mel Brooks, but most of this doesn’t feel like him at all. I did laugh at the Lincoln segment in the first part. Making … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 04/01/23

Tenant

Where I Watched It: HBo MAX English Audio Description Provided By: Deluxe Narrated By: Jedidiah Barton I’m a big fan of Christopher Nolan, and Tenant was on my must watch list. but I knew better than to even attempt this without audio description. And while I’m willing to do that with 99% of the films I watch, Chris Nolan is someone I don’t mess around with. Some of my favorite films, we’re talking top 100, are directed by him. Certainly The Dark knight, which stands on top of everything for me, but I have a feeling inception and Memento would … Continue reading Tenant

The Strays

Where I Watched It: Netflix English Audio Description? Yes In my quest to see better films in 2023, I almost didn’t see The Strays. There’s no one in this I’m familiar with, no director, nothing. Just a random Netflix drop of a British psychological thriller. And yet, I still found myself interested enough to click play. The Strays reminds me quite a bit of Amazon’s limited series Them, which featured a suburban idyllic life that perhaps is not so idyllic. As we open and are introduced to what seems like a very different story, it’s hard to see where The … Continue reading The Strays

Lots of TV shows to discuss today. ABC has announced its plans to revive its TGIF lineup, with a mix of revivals and new series. First up, Melissa Joan hart is tapped to return as Sabrina, the 40-Something Witch, no other cast has been announced, though Caroline Rhea is expected to return since she hasn’t found anything to do since Match Game stopped making new episodes. The other show to anchor the lineup is Family Matters, taking a look at how Urkel and laura ended up with a family, and a set of kids that are mostly very different from … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 04/01/23
