The Too Much TV Roundup- November 7th
Well, the last normal TV watching day before election night takes over everyone’s televisions. And, now there’s a tropical storm headed my way. I feel like… God didn’t like how Florida voted. 7) Fire Country (CBS/Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes Well, I didn’t even know there was a Stage 5. Most medical dramas suggest Stage 4 is the worst. But, our soon-to-die mom will leave behind turmoil, as Bodhie rescued a horse, but also got knocked out of his job for being a nice guy. The drama on this show is so confusing sometimes. Episode Grade: B 6) The … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- November 7th
The Too Much TV Roundup- November 6th
Definitely had to get some real life stuff done today, but I still managed five shows for you. 5) Saturday Night live (Peacock) English Audio Description?: No I had no idea who the musical guest even was. That’s new for me. Like, sometimes I’ve heard the name before, but I am pretty sure I’ve never heard their music. This guy just fell from the sky. Anyway, the funniest things in this episode were Amy Schumer’s monologue and Weekend Update. Not a strong episode. It felt like sketches didn’t know when to end, so they just drew out forever and ever. … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- November 6th
All Quiet On The Western Front
Where I Watched It: Netflix Audio Description Provided By: International Digital Center Written By Dakota Green Narrated By: Emily Eden There have been war films as long as there has been film. Capturing violence on celluloid has not just been for documentarians and journalists, but also has long served as a method for aspiring filmmakers to make their stance, whether it be in a support our troops, or the horrors of war sort of way. That’s why, when people generally reference All Quiet On The Western Front, they are referencing the Best picture Oscar that is almost 90 years old, … Continue reading All Quiet On The Western Front
Wendell and Wild
Where I Watched It: Netflix Audio Description provided by: International Digital Center Written By: Liz gutman Narrated By: Sri Gordon I know most critics just hop in and do their thing, but I’m not them. I have to admit, there are moments even with terrific audio description, that i still find things where I get more depressed than excited or elated, because my inability to visually see something, or participate in the way I would have been able to a few years ago is now totally different becomes apparent in something. Here, I’m aware Wendell and Wild is a Henry … Continue reading Wendell and Wild
Barbarian
Where I Watched It: HBo MAX English Audio Description Provided By: Deluxe Narrated By: William Michael Redmond I think for a lot of people whether or not they choose to watch Barbarian is a personal choice. I think some people might have heard about, or gotten some spoilers thrown their way that have led them to have an idea of whether or not this is the film for them. And, I think that’s totally valid. As creative as Zach Cregger’s horror title is, it also gets that recognition for a very particular reason. It’s the film I casually refer to … Continue reading Barbarian
The Too Much TV Roundup- November 5th
A busy day, but I’m never too busy to at least tell you my opinions on a few shows. 5) 5) Little Demon (FX/Hulu) English Audio description?: No In a very strong and tight race, the show that loses out first is the one without audio description. While this show has funny moments written in the dialogue that work no matter what, it has consistently proven that it also has the challenge of fighting numerous demon fight sequences. Someone is always getting murdered, obliterated, chopped, or otherwise maimed, and in those more action heavy sequences is how this actually potentially … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- November 5th
Mid-Century
Where I Watched it: Peacock English Audio Description Provided By: Three Play Media Narrated By: Olivia Willis i really walk into films sometimes just for the sake of reviewing something that has audio description that gives a point of reference to my blind and visually impaired readers. I didn’t know what this was. After the fact, I saw it’s shockingly low IMDB score (this thing is in the basement), which i suspected would be low since the film stars Shane West, which is not a starting point for success. It did however manage to wrangle Bruce Dern in the most … Continue reading Mid-Century
The Sound of 007
Where I Watched it: Amazon English Audio Description?: Yes Last year, the documentary film was taken by storm by a film celebrating music, and really showing what it meant to make a music documentary. This year, amazon realized they now own the Bond franchise, and decided to make one more thing for you to click on. The Sound Of 007 certainly isn’t comprehensive, and plays favorites, but for extreme Bond aficionados, it might be worth the watch. I did enjoy many of the stories of how certain songs came to be. Shirley Bassey was having a hard time belting that … Continue reading The Sound of 007
Under Wraps 2
Where I Watched it: Disney Plus English Audio Description Provided By: PixelLogic Narrated By: Darren Rivers The film that confused me to begin with. It made me want to watch the 90’s version, but then it turned out to be a 2021 remake, which I didn’t know existed, and this is now a sequel to that, and not a legacy sequel. Kind of like father Of The Bride part 2, but… not. The sequel reunites everyone major from the first film. you’ve got the main trio of kids, with the scared one trying to pretend he’s more brave, and there’s … Continue reading Under Wraps 2
The Too Much TV Roundup- November 4th
Let me tell you, that insistently fighting with streaming services for audio description feels very much like shouting at the wind, but i do intend on continuing to do it. Because, one day, the wind might just answer back. For those interested, I’m still in an over two month negotiation (it certainly feels like at this point) with Paramount Plus. Also, I reached out to Roku over their lack of audio description for Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, and was told it was not available at launch, but *should be* available at a *later date*, so, basically the most non … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- November 4th
Under Wraps (2021)
Where I Watched it: Disney plus English Audio Description Provided By: Descriptive Video Works I don’t watch a ton of Disney Channel movies, but then again, I’m not sure if the original was Disney Channel or Wonderful World of Disney. It’s from the 90’s, so anything is possible. I’m mentioning this, because I had never seen the original. Still haven’t. I saw there was an under Wraps 2, and i wanted to do a few more reviews for Halloween. Assuming Under Wraps 2 was a legacy sequel, i jumped in without paying a bit of attention. Turns out, the original … Continue reading Under Wraps (2021)
Escape From Kabul
Where I Watched It: HBo MAX English Audio Description?: Yes I feel like the pullout of the troops from Afghanistan is going to end up in more films and tv shows, but kicking this all off is Escape From Kabul. If you think I’m wrong, remind yourself that last year, we had the documentary The Resuce, about the effort to save the boys soccer team from a flooded cave in Thailand. This year, we’ve had a film adaptation directed by Ron Howard, and then a Netflix limited series Thai Cave Rescue. All about in the span of a year. Just … Continue reading Escape From Kabul
The Too Much TV Roundup- November 3rd
Six shows today. The number one was the easiest choice I had to make in a long time. 6) Star Trek: Lower Decks (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes I mean, sure. But, the jokes weren’t earned. Not to spoil the joke, but two have two competing ships and memebers from them working on a common goal project, to have the members of the other ship be rude and dismissive, but then turn around later and say that they weren’t being that, they just think our Lower Decks team is awesome, and legendary, was… illogical, to paraphrase a Vulcan. They … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- November 3rd
The Too Much TV Roundup- November 2nd
Had a great time yesterday, and managed to knock out six shows. So, let’s talk about them. 6) The Patient (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Hlu’s persistence in not providing audio description for the remaining episodes (I’m even watching these late), is killing this show. Ironic, for a show about a serial killer, but irony is not Hulu’s strong suit. This episode featured long quiet moments where I couldn’t tell what was going on at all. There was a scene that featured Steve Carell’s character crying out, but I guess based on the reactions later on, that was a dream? … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- November 2nd
The Too Much TV Roundup- November 1st
We’re already at November? My God. You know, I saw a Christmas advertisement on Halloween? That’s a bit much, right? Now we’ll just leapfrog Thanksgiving, and it’s nothing but a steady barrage of holiday entertainment. SiriusXM launched all their Christmas music stations already to get the jump. Honestly, they have thousands of stations, I don’t know why they ever need to “launch” them. 7) Ms Scarlet and the Duke (PBS) English Audio Description?: No Wel, she got her ring back, but AT WHAT COST? Still wish this ran with audio description. I very much feel like this is a spectrum … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- November 1st
