Not surprising at all, but CBS will continue to air its Australian import, NCIS: Sydney for its second season, despite already having two NCIS shows, and currently in development on two more. Fun fact, this entire franchise only exists thanks to a series being rescued from cancellation. Apple better be continuing on with For All Mankind. That season finale was a beast, and did exactly what I thought it would. Because the show takes these leaps forward in time, original cast members have to keep being shaved off because there’s only just so much you can age a person. The fact that I’m hearing that the SAG AMPTA negotiations are being held up over AI really tells me all I need to know about the studios positions. I do hope SAG does not waiver on their counter to many of the terrible ideas these studios were proposing, including owning an actors likeness in perpetuity, simply because they showed up as an extra for one day. Best Buy announced they will no longer be selling physical media after this holiday season. That breaks my heart. I have a massive physical media collection of DVD’s and BluRay’s, and before losing my vision, I used to love to hit up Best Buy on Black Friday, run in and grab a ton of new entries to my collection for cheap. A tentative deal has been reached between the studios and the writers. The details have yet to be made public, but should be shortly as the membership has to vote on it. An official vote by leadership happens on Tuesday, which will solidify this a bit more, and possibly allow some writers to return to work. I’ve been clicking on random titles, and so far the small list I’ve got includes: The machinist, Dungeons and Dragons honor Among Thieves, Women Talking, 3000 Years Of Longing, The Firm, Failure To Launch, and Lemony Snicket’s A Series Of unfortunate Events. CBS already is talking about not being worried about next season as they have Paramount Plus shows to rely on. Meanwhile, since today is Wednesday, in the middle of June, I feel the need to point out that this is when ABC has decided to drop the second season of The Wonder Years. Clearly, it’s a burn off. Well, the cancellation monster arrived at NBC yesterday and got rid of young Roc and Grand Crew. I believe that leaves only American Auto on the bubble. Ginny and Georgia got a two season renewal, because certainly the world needed more of that. And, Virgin River got an early Season 6 renewal before Season 5 premieres. Yesterday provided ample TV news. NBC announced their fall lineup, which included a Season 2 renewal for Lopez V Lopez, and has left its remaining sitcoms (American Auto, Young Rock, and Grand Crew) on the bubble. NBC also surprisingly revived Transplant with a 2 season order (since the series comes from Canada), and pushed LaBrea’s tiny third (and likely final) season to mid season. FOX has given a second season to the comedy Animal Control. Also, Disney is planning on merging Hulu into Disney Plus by the end of the year, and is currently in negotiations to buy out Comcast on their remaining shares. A couple more interesting WGA Strike tidbits. The Rings Of Power was told to continue filming without it’s showrunners (who are WGA members, and on strike). So if you were concerned about the quality last season, this could either be a good or bad thing. Probably bad though. And Evil, which was finishing filming on its fourth season, ended up wrapping filming early because the strike was too disruptive. I don’t know how you end early in a positive way. I read an interesting news story that fans of Netflix shows have noticed that Netflix loves to cancel their product, and are now banding together to try and stop these cancellations. For example, there’s an entire subreddit devoted to Shadow and Bone where over 24K fans keep rewatching the show over and over to keep its numbers up.
