Yesterday provided ample TV news. NBC announced their fall lineup, which included a Season 2 renewal for Lopez V Lopez, and has left its remaining sitcoms (American Auto, Young Rock, and Grand Crew) on the bubble. NBC also surprisingly revived Transplant with a 2 season order (since the series comes from Canada), and pushed LaBrea’s tiny third (and likely final) season to mid season.
Meanwhile, The CW surprisingly rescued cancelled AMC drama 61st Street. I’m not sure why. I’m not sure anyone was asking for that. But this is the new CW, and by God, they will be irrelevant in the next five years if it kills them.
Netflix, not to be outdone by all the networks and their shenanigans brought down the chopping block on Lockwood and Company. Also dead is Dear Edward, because Apple has decided they don’t like good shows anymore.
Predictably, after saving 911 and returning Dancing With The Stars to ABC, some cuts had to be made. That means no more Big Sky, Alaska Daily, or The Company You Keep. No word yet on The Rookie Feds, or bubble sitcoms Not Dead Yet and home Economics.
15) Night Court (NBC/Peacock)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Renewed
I give this show quite a lot of shit, but truthfully, it just has shitty writers. The cast is sometimes committed to the worst jokes. This whole episode was based around Abby thinking her co-worker had a crush on her, and then out of nowhere this Gaby shows up, and we learn new things, and Abby rethinks her life. Meanwhile, John Larroquette is reduced to being saved from a hug much like the President would be saved by a member of the Secret Service. And this is the show that NBC is anchoring all its comedy hopes on.

This “The President Is coming’ episode is basically a clip show. The girls all remember time from the past… and we see those moment. It’s 10% new content, 90% flashbacks. I don’t like clip shows. It’s cheap TV.

I’ll be waiting a couple of weeks to watch Episode 2. There’s no AD here, and the first episode was just our titular rapper talking about how he loves it when his crooked penis is straightened to a small grouping of regular folk fans.

While this episode had an impressive cast, including Edward Norton and Cherry Jones, I didn’t quite understand it. I’m admitting that either the show wasn’t explained well enough, or I was too stupid to follow the science and reasoning behind flying planes really high and why this was a global emergency.

The Taylors take a trip to Cleveland, where hill has all these plans, but they end up being thwarted by the men in her life not being interested in any of them. I’m actually quite surprised no one was interested in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.

Earl’s home life is in danger because he can’t figure out why his wife is so tired after having a baby, so he learns a mating dance. not only do the Dino’s watch TV, but there’s also a reference to cars. But the best joke was how they have two humans, obviously really early versions of men, and they keep them in a zoo like structure with names reminiscent of what we give to pandas.

8) 911 (FOX/Hulu)

I do believe this was Connie Britton’s final episode (at least as a regular), as she leaves for Ireland at the end.Otherwise, it was pretty much a typical 911 episode, with everyone’s own personal stories advancing slightly. That’s 1 season down, five more to go before this comes back next season.

Nothing quite like watching a Christmas episode in May when it’s 90 something outside. But at least this episode brought back Pinky and the Brain, and that song the Warner siblings sing with Santa gave me life.

Anyone else notice how they’ve stopped mentioning Margaret’s third kid, and his husband has stopped showing up? While her husband seems like good people, watching this episode actually made me want Allison to divorce him for being too stupid to function. I mean, wow.

All that fuss over a dead seal? It’s amazing how brilliant these two are supposed to be but this “situational comedy” had them doing some really silly things. it was funny, but uncharacteristically so.

The season finale saw our living leads watch from a distance as a beam of white light hit their house and someone finally moved on. So fans of the show will be guessing who it was for the whole summer. All I know, is that it won’t be Thor or Flower. No way.

The remaining faithful have to compete in a challenge, and I never would have done it. My fear of heights would have kept me off that bridge. But, when it came time for elimination, the gang FINALLY called out Olivia for basically being the only reason the first guy got voted off. She stood alone, as apparently there was no witness, which made Olivia look shadier. Traitor or not, everyone trusted her and voted her way, and sent home a faithful. Her opinions and thoughts can’t be trusted, and whether she was or was not a faithful, I would have still voted her off. This was a good call.

i love that no matter where he moved to, john was always within running distance from his childhood home. There really wasn’t a lot of explanation behind how he got those explosives. This series doesn’t always make sense, but it’s trying to have fifty misdirections going at the same time, and it’s an utterly insane show.

2) Unstable (Netflix)

Surprisingly, this is evolving quickly into a well written, funny sitcom. I love that Lowe was able to kidnap his therapist, and fill him full of so many good thoughts that the guy actuallly thanked him. Lots of good quick witted one liners here.

1) Everwood (FreeVee)
English Audio Description?: No
I started back through on Everwood, which already left HBO MAX apparently, and is now on FreeVee. This is one of my favorite shows of all time, and I actually own teh DVD’s. I have loved this pilot, and I think it does exactly what a pilot should. It establishes the whole show. Backstory, plot, Amin characters, and what will be happening moving forward. It accomplishes a lot, and many other shows should look to this as an example of how to make the perfect TV pilot. Everwood was a critical darling, and an unfortunate casualty of The WB and UPN merging into The CW.
