In the Best Guest Actor race, we have a couple of contenders from The Good Wife. David Hyde Pierce, Dylan Baker, Michael J Fox, and Ed Asner are all aiming for nominations. They’ll have to fight against Beau Bridges from Masters Of Sex, Courtney B. Vance from Scandal, David Morse from Mad Men, and fan favorite Walton Goggins for Sons Of Anarchy. Also in the running, but longer shots, are Andre Braugher for Law and Order SVU, Sam Shepard for Bloodline, and F Murray Abraham for Homeland. Lets face it. Those three are in the running because of who they are, and less because of the impact their roles had this season. I’d bet on a strong Good Wife showing, with at least 3 of the actors getting nominations alongside probably Bridges and Morse.
For Guest Actress, The Good Wife is set to make less of an impact on the race. Really, only Carrie Preston and Linda Lavin are in the running, and neither are guaranteed. Allison Janney is the frontrunner here for Masters Of Sex, and Diana Rigg is almost a lock for Game Of Thrones. Cicely Tyson should see a nomination for How To Get Away With Murder. The last two slots are up for grabs. There’s Margo Martindale for The Americans, Kate Burton for Scandal, Kiernan Shirpka for Mad Men, Julianne Nicholson for Masters Of Sex, and Ann Margret for Ray Donovan. There’s an outside chance for Jennifer Hudson for Empire, who could ride the Empire tidal wave (if there is one). I also hope for Laura Prepon for Orange Is The New Black and Marcia Gay Harden for How To Get Away With Murder. So many great actress performances here that Julia Ormond, Elisabeth Reaser, Alison Brie, and Jessica Pare are barely in the running for Mad Men. I would nominate Janney, Rigg, Prepon, Harden, and Lori Petty for Orange Is The New Black (who doesn’t stand a chance).
