Box Office Predictions: ‘Pets’ Put An End To ‘Dory’ At The Top

Illumination’s The Secret Life Of Pets opens this weekend, and is definitely hitting #1. It’s the film that’s been heavily promoted for a year, causing buzz to transform this film into a tentpole for the studio. If Dory wasn’t alive at the box office, it could probably do 100M with no other family competition, but it has Dory and The BFG pulling eyes, and even Tarzan a little.

The other new release, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, currently has a 73% on Rotten Tomatoes, so maybe it doesn’t suck. Maybe audiences won’t run from it like they did Neighbors 2 and Popstar. Zac Efron, Anna Kendrick, Adam Devine, and Aubrey Plaza star.

Next weekend, Ghostbusters looks to dominate as the only new wide release.
