The Too Much TV Roundup- September 30th

Heading into Halloween season, I leave September behind with a few thoughts, and some new additions to the rotation.

1) The Patient (hulu)

English Audio Description Available?: Yes

See how easy that was Hulu? All you needed to do to stop getting shitty scores on this show was actually add audio description so I could follow the show. in Episode 4, the tension continues to mount, as the trapped doctor tries to communicate with the next likely victim, knowing that if he can’t get a breakthrough with his serial killer patient, the guy across the hall is dead. Not only is the show well acted, but it holds its tension but keeping it short. Only 24 minutes long, but they are the tightest 24 minutes.

Episode Grade: A

2) Ghosts (Paramount Plus/ CBS)

English Audio Description?: No?

Did we stop describing the hit new CBS comedy now that we’re all hooked? That’s not fair. Yes, the episode was still funny. A new couple stayed at the B&B and the ghosts tried to help out to mixed results, meanwhile we found out that Thor really loves to watch ants. You’d have to have been there.

Episode Grade: A

3) Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous (Netflix)

The five members of the core group fight for survival and discuss if they could ever trust Kenji again, while Kenji uses mind control on dinosaurs. Man, Kenji is just… falling down his rabbit hole.

Episode Grade: A-

4) The Rings of Power (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

So, i love almost everything about this show, except its ever expanding ensemble and bouncing around. I’m having a hard time remembering everyone’s names, if they were in a previous episode, what else they’ve done this season, and so on… largely because of the blind thing and not having facial recognition, mixed with the number of characters, and their weird names. Bonus points to covering all the groups in Episode 5, as well as a kick ass moment from The Stranger, and a song sung by our traveling Hobbit group. There were lots of songs in the novels, so this is a huge boost to people bitching about deviating from the novel.

Episode Grade: A-

5) Home Economics (Hulu/ABC)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Everyone in one house. You’d think it would be funnier than it was, but really Lupe had the most jokes in the episode. So, I guess that’s a win for Lupe fans. Her comment about staging a production of Annie was brilliant.

Episode Grade: B+

6) the Undeclared War (Peacock)

English Audion Description Available?: Yes

I don’t know if it’s just me being catty, but I’ve never been so aggressively reminded of the name of the show, of any show, like I was this program. It’s like this show is aimed at patients with short term memory loss, because they had a title card for the series at least 10 times in the first episode. Before and after each commercial break. It’s impossible for you to not know what you are watching. So for those of you watching without commercials, I can’t imagine the insanity. As far as the show, which takes place in the UK after the internet has been targeted and mostly shut down, it hints at a potential conflict from Russia as they seem to believe it was Russian hackers, possibly state sponsored. This has a lot of potential. But, I know the name of the show now. You can calm down.

Episode Grade: B

7) History 101 (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Did I need to learn about credit cards? honestly, I learned nothing in this episode, so this just reflects how well the episode was made, with points taken off for my lack of enjoyment in not learning a damn thing.

Episode Grade: B

8) Virgin River (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Somehow, this show is breaking itself, and even though I agreed to not grade it, I do feel it slipping into the shit even more. Whether it was Paige showing up right before Preacher was about to get it on and Preacher’s half hearted “I’m doing everything I can to find Christopher”, when we’ve been watching him all season… and that’s not the case. Meanwhile, it’s been a few seasons, so jack needed another sibling, only this one is dead. So, I had to try and watch Jack act, which sucked. hard. This 11th episode just really started slipping out of control. God knows what lies in store in the season finale.

Episode Grade: B-
