The Too Much TV Roundup- 05/29/23

I watched way too much TV yesterday. i know a lot of these are half hours, but even for me. My God. Wow.

16) Saint X (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

You know, this was one of the first things I watched, and I can’t remember anything about it. It’s the second episode, and I remember there’s a mystery around a murdered girl, and the show is on an island. I got very little beyond that. It wasn’t bad enough for me to remember hating it, it’s just mediocre enough for me to not care.

Episode Grade: C

15) Designing Women (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

There was a guy named James Dean, and I remember he was not a great kisser. Then, in another plot, there was a guy one of the women didn’t recognize, but another one did. hilarity ensued.

Episode Grade: B-

14) Dinosaurs (Disney plus)

English Audio Description?: no

Status: Ended

The Baby becomes king when they think he has a magical Golden horn. It’s a truly stupid episode, but it does have some nice commentary around a small subplot where Earl’s best friend (a T-Rex) is self conscious about his tiny arms, and he learns not to be. Life lesson learned. Best part are these little cutaways to a TV show that is like Mr. Wizard, where his kid assistant always dies, and he ends the episode with “We’re going to need another Timmy.”

Episode Grade: B-

13) Waco: The Aftermath (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Limited Series

It is only five episodes, and i might try to finish this, but it’s also not the first Waco series I’ve watched. And the lack of audio description is making it hard for me to fully embrace Michael Shannon’s performance, just like when he did George and Tammy.

Episode Grade: B-

12) Rabbit Hole (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Rnewed

All the stuff with the alarms, and needing to sneak in and steal something out of a protected vault was exciting, but Kyle is driving me insane. worst villain ever.

Episode Grade: B

11) Futurama (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: no

Status: Revived Again

This introduced that space Captain who is a bit of a dullard, but gets used in other episodes later on. he is hilarious. All his interactions with Leela were great, and i didn’t care what anyone else did this episode. Which was a problem for the actual storyline.

Episode Grade: B

10) Clarissa Explains it All (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Clarissa wants to save up for a car that costs less than 2K. man, inflation. Am i right? Granted, she wants a Gremlin, but still. A lot actually goes on in this episode, with her Dad wanting Clarissa to go camping with him (because it’s really not Fergus’s thing), and Clarissa has to sell a ton of Christmas cards.

Episode Grade: B

9) Boy Meets World (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: NoS

Status: Ended

Cory learns not to leave Morgan in the house by herself. Really, that’s it.

Episode Grade: B+

9) Friends (HBo MAX)

English Audio description?: Yes

Status: Ended

Everything works in this episode except Monica’s brief storyline where she gets addicted to daytrading. Phoebe and her trying to contact her dad, but being attacked by an aggressive terrier was funny, as was the Ross/Chandler bit with the bullies. but Monica suddenly having an addictive personality out of nowhere just didn’t fit.

Episode Grade: B+

8) Trophy Wife (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

This short-lived ABC sitcom deserved much better. Rewatching this Malin Ackerman series convinces me that she still deserves her own sitcom. And Bradley Whitford is great too. If you never watched it, this has no audio description, but it’s only one season. One good season.

Episode Grade: B+

7) 6) Frasier (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Revived

Frasier does good deeds that constantly backfire, eventually landing him in jail.

Episode Grade: B+

5) Barry (HBO/ mAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Final Season

Sorry, I’m still behind. So, not the finale yet. but, Hank has a tough choice to make. I don’t know WHAT they were trying to do with Henry Winkler this episode, but it was the first episode that made me like Hank, and not like our unraveling acting teacher.

Episode Grade: A-

4) 911 (FOX/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: moving To ABC

A ghost might have saved the life of someone with a damn selfie stick. The saddest thing here was watching everyone put down a horse. Surprisingly far more moving than it should have been, considering the screentime of the horse. Also, Athena has a monologue about why she became a cop that was really effective.

Episode Grade: A-

3) Daisy Jones and the Six (Amazon)

English audio Description?: Yes

Status: hopefully Dead

I mean, I’ve had my ups and downs with this show, but I can’t think of why anyone would want a second season. This was such an obvious series finale. Everything wrapped up nicely, and closure was had. Slight deduction from me as i hate Daisy/Billy as a couple.Episode Grade: A-

2) A Small Light (Nat Geo/Disney plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited

Had no idea this was an Anne Frank limited series, just from a different point of view. very strong and effective first episode. Hopefully Emmy voters are watching. Very timely as well. For all those who don’t understand why we don’t just let Russia invade Ukraine, remember that Anne Frank didn’t live in Germany. Germany gave zero fucks, and took the countries it wanted to take.

Episode Grade: A

1) Sweet Tooth (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

Really just a character building episode, but I felt like everyone grew. The best scene was Jephyr sitting down and talking with a woman who had been waiting for a phone call for nine years. He was so empathetic. It was a great moment for his character.
