The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/17/23

Well, new seasons of Fargo and Chucky were both given fall premiere launch dates. So if the Networks are boring you to death with their strike filler, you can check those out.

10) Outlander (Starz)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Final Season

Still doing my Season 6 rewatch, and i remember being frustrated with the episode the last time. This is the one where Jamie believes he cheated on Claire while she was ill, and there’s a dead family from dysentery. There’s just a lot of stuff happening in this episode that doesn’t make sense to a blind viewer, and i was more lost than I usually am with an outlander episode. If I remember correctly, there’s more to this story, which is why I think understanding what sighted audiences got to see is so important. I rarely ever do this, but this episode is.

Episode Grade: Unwatchable

9) 9) Family Matters (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

Eddie is running for class President. I was really thrown back with the “pop culture” references of the day, like when Laura tells Eddie that his only shot of winning is if his competition is found on a yacht with Gary Hart. Rewatching this series made me feel old to begin with, as I remember this from my childhood, but that reference threw me way back.

8) X-Men (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

lots of action here as Storm, Gamvit, and Jubilee try and get off Genosha. Cable shows up, but they act like he’s from their timeline. No mention of him being from the future? Maybe the animated series felt that having two badass guys from the future, with Bishop and Cable, was a bit much.

7) The Golden Girls (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

Again, as Dorothy moves closer to her marriage with Stan, her roommates start looking for her replacement. No one could have possibly thought this was actually happening back then, did they?

Episode Grade: B+

6) 911 (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Moving To ABC

Most of this needed AD really bad, as it is an accident needing description. Why this is so high, is because Michael’s storyline about his impending death really is hitting that emotional chord.

Episode Grade: B+

5) Special Ops: Lioness (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet renewed

Zoe Saldana’s character is given more backstory with her husband and daughter, and she also orders a nice torture session for the new girl to see if she’ll break. The rest of the team need distinguishable personalities, and Nicole Kidman needs a backstory instead of one scene per episode.

Episode Grade: B+

4) The Righteous Gemstones (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

The cousins leave with the monster truck and return to the militia. Idiots. Jesse considers bringing his mom back as a hologram, and his sister is a bit much this episode, as she deals with a shakedown for her quasi-affair.

3) Only Murders in The Building (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

Ben’s funeral sends Martin Short into overload as he tries to save his show, while the other two in the trio follow a stalker back to his place thinking he has evidence on who the killer was. We also learn that Brazzos himself might have motive. Apparently, he and Ben were not getting along, and he got Ben fired from a gig when the poor thing was just eight.Episode Grade: A-

2) Swagger (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

I’m still hating this storyline. Why does anyone care who beat up a predator anyway? This episode was steeped in so many important topics, from Emancipation, to the Prison Complex, to Menthal Health. I’m gonna give their other bullshit mostly a pass this week, because if it wasn’t for the other noise, this terrific episode wouldn’t have happened. The ending, and the phone call Issac gets worries me about the next episode.

Episode Grade: A

1) Never Have i Ever (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Final Season

Basically, every major character made a move toward their final futures. For some, it was love, and seeing that was great. I don’t know how Jeff Garlin got this gig after The Goldbergs, but I’m glad its working out in terms of the story. This is a series I feel like might actually have a good series finale.
