Millie Bobby Brown needs to have a deal with… life. The poor girl basically is living inside Netflix, as the star of Stranger Things, which will probably air its final season when she’s 30, and the Enolah Holmes series, Brown is of course doing Damsel for Netflix. The problem with that, is that Netflix has a movie vomit approach to its platform, and it is so hard to parse which films are worth your time just by assuming it’s the new Friday release. Netflix has so many mediocre movies with movie stars they could stock a defunct Blockbuster with just … Continue reading Damsel

The Small Screen Diaries- 01/10/23

As promised, I tackled Echo (Disney Plus), but just the first episode. I’m not a huge fan of the binge watch. I like to savor my shows, especially ones with only 5 episodes, and the next Marvel show is quite far off. I thought it was a strong start, but it didn’t break into the top echelon of Marvel shows for me, which really no one has ever topped WandaVision. Some critics have hailed it as what Marvel needs right now, and I say it could ahve been, if they had let Echo stand on her own in the pilot, … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 01/10/23

The creative arts Emmys were last night, and some really interesting choices were made. Did your show win any of the below the line awards? Was your favorite guest actor or actress awarded a trophy? Also, the National Society of Film Critics (an aspirational group for me) named Past Lives as the film of the year, but my favorite pick of theirs was giving an honorable Mention to Rachel macadams for Are You There God, It’s me Margaret? I did think it was weird that Zone of Interest was the Best Picture honorable mention, won director, and was recognized as … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 01/06/24

Jake Johnson mentioned yesterday that he does not believe Starz will renew Minx. I’m telling you, it’s the only reason I haven’t cancelled yet. I’m living on a prayer. The good news is that they immediately cancelled and pulled Heels right after the finale, and cancelled shining Veil immediately, so the fact they are even thinking about minx means it has a shot. 1) Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (Netflix) English Audio Description Provided By: XTraX Status: Limited Well, the second episode is weird. Woke up to the tributes pouring in for Andre Braugher, who passed away at the age of just 61. He was such a brilliant actor, who could handle drama and comedy. I’m not going to lie and talk about how his performance on Homicide changed my life. I was young, and I never watched Homicide (or NYPD Blue for that matter). I think my favorite performance of his is as the Captain on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, as the seemingly normal one, who as you continued on with the series learned more and more about how eclectic he really was to match … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/12/23

11) Seaquest DSV (Peacock) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended I think I’ve given a few episodes a pass, as it is a bit easier being on a rewatch. but this episode focused quite a bit on a ghost ship, a diary, and possession? I’ll admit, when you throw ghosts and what I can assume was possession in the mix, it goes a little past being easy to just follow along. Well, that was a lot faster the next time around. Amazon has picked up Good Omens for a third season, so hopefully the wait between Season 2 and 3 will be much less. 8) Krapopolis (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Unknown I still wish this show had audio description, but this silly plot about dead goats was funny enough. I didn’t realize until this episode that Matt Barry was voicing a monster, because all i hear is Lazlo. Episode Grade: B 7) Heartstopper (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Renewed? Check out what I found in the rankings below. 8) Name That Tune (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Not Yet Renewed Megan Hilty! That’s really all I needed. I wish the show skewed in her favor, and she had to guess something like Secondhand White Baby Grand from Smash. It didn’t happen. There are a lot of articles out there about “When is my favorite show coming back?” Presumably, once the leadership passes the tentative agreement on, they will lift the restrictions while WGA members vote on whether or not to approve. Right now, the only thing that has stopped is picketing. Since they were not technically being struck to begin with, those daytime talk shows that faced backlash could likely return next week, including Drew Barrymore and Jennifer Hudson. Matt Walsh is expected to dance tonight on Dancing With The Stars. The next set to resume will be the late night … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/25/23

No big TV news, so I’ll use my intro spot to announce that Lily Gladstone, the one-time front runner for Best Supporting Actress, has now flipped and decided to run for Lead Actress. We now call this “Pulling a Michelle Williams.” Hopefully she dominates the movie, because she is now competing in films where the lead Actress is in a film clearly about them. 10) Alias (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended I’m still saying that this show is too action oriented to not have audio description. Also, apparently they made another Trolls movie. 11) Chip and Dale’s Rescue Rangers (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended I don’t expect linear storytelling, but to sudddenly watch an episode where I guess the Rangers are on another continent, and their aircraft is being worshipped by flightless Kiwi birds really made me think how the hell they got there. MAX is sticking with And Just Like That, picking up the series for a third season. Also, Paramount Plus confirmed that the show is coming this fall, and will at least have a brief linear appearance on CBS. 12) X-Men (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended I hate seeing this show on the bottom, but narratively, they just got back from Genosha, and there was zero mention of Gambit. So if the Networks are boring you to death with their strike filler, you can check those out. 10) Outlander (Starz) English Audio Description?: No Status: Final Season Still doing my Season 6 rewatch, and i remember being frustrated with the episode the last time. The TV news cycle is really slow right now. The WGA met, and were made a counter offer that they are taking a look at. Sadly, they did not release the counter offer to the press. It’s possible that they believe there’s actually something to work with here. 13) Hey Dude (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended It’s boys vs girls at the ranch, in an anything you can do I can do better storyline. It’s a slow news day, but you know how all the streaming services have these random films that didn’t do well at the box office, or were even theatrically released, and were made years ago? I wonder why we can’t have a streamer that does that just for TV shows? Think of how many shows you’ve seen over the years that had short runs, or perhaps aired years ago, and currently don’t appear on a streaming service, but it would be fun to revisit those shows. if I can revisit a crappy 90’s flop, I should be able to revisit … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/30/23

I’ve been deep diving a bit more into the SAG-AFTRA talks and some of the stuff they’re requesting isn’t unreasonable. Actually, none of it is. Just take some of these CEO salaries, lower them, and you’ll have the money to pay for some of this stuff. Also, for the poor people without cable or Peacock, Yellowstone is coming to CBS in the fall since they are a little short on new programming. Add to that, the UK version of Ghosts, which I’m at least interested in checking out.

12) 8 Simple Rules (Disney plus) English Audio Description?: No Sorry, this was a tough day to rank, and 8 Simple Rules just felt like it missed a mark the most. This episode had a solid reference to Three’s Company, but squandered the “kids out of the house” moment by not letting the adults actually have any meaningful time together. john Ritter’s time on the show was fleeting, and I can’t help but think this missed a mark to show that Paul and Kate were more than just parents. But they are MAX projects, including House Of The Dragon. 15) The Muppets Mayhem (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Not Yet Renewed Now, I really want Peter Jackson to direct a Muppets movie. FOX has given a second season to the comedy Animal Control. Also, Disney is planning on merging Hulu into Disney Plus by the end of the year, and is currently in negotiations to buy out Comcast on their remaining shares. So your kids can watch Encanto and American Horror Story in one place! I have been integrating more and more reruns into my Lineup, a trend I’m personally enjoying. I can’t claim a shortage of good news today. The WGA voted finally to go on strike, which is officially happening right now. That means all guild writers, which is most of Hollywood, have ceased working on their projects. This affects shows with quick turnover rates first, like late night talk and variety shows. So until this strike is over, expect Colbert, Meyers, Fallon, Kimmel, and others to be reruns. This also likely ended Saturday Night Live’s season, unless a deal is reached soon. Where I Watched it: HBo MAX English Audio Description?: no Just like I did with White Men Can’t Jump, I watched Malcolm X with the intention of filling in a gap in the 1992 titles I’d seen, and hopefully knock out some that were aimed at a different target demo in 1992. In 1992, i still woke up on Saturday mornings and watched my cartoons. So a three hour Malcolm X biopic would have likely put me to sleep.
