The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/23/23

The studios claim they have made their best and final offer to the WGA,. After four days of negotiations, the two are scheduled to meet again today. I do believe this has to be ratified by the membership, so if there aren’t major concessions made by the studios it won’t pass. Writers haven’t been picketing for 5 months just so AI can start becoming a credited screenwriter.

11) The Continental (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited

I suppose its possible that if I had never seen the John Wick films, I might have enjoyed this. However, i have seen them, so this is dreadful, long, overly expository, boring, unimpressive, dull, lifeless, dead on arrival, and one of the worst shows I’ve watched in a while. I didn’t even care that Mel Gibson appeared. He neither makes the show better or worse. his personal past is irrelevant because the thing he’s in would still be bad if he was recast. This has no idea why people enjoyed the john Wick films, and makes me a little concerned for any other future spinoffs or sequels. It’s a ton of talking and not enough fighting.

Episode Grade: D+

10) Family Matters (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

Because he’s snooping, Urkel is led to believe that Rachel is interested in having a relationship with him. urkel is clearly now the lead of a show about a family he’s not a part of. This show is weird.

Episode Grade: B-

9) Happy Endings (Roku)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

While I enjoyed Max’s storyline, after being stood up on a date, the other two were less hilarious.

Episode Grade: B-

8) All In The Family (FreeVee)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

I probably would have done without the curse. I would have loved seeing the female friend beat Archie at pool clean instead of having this weird curse thing thrown in.

Episode Grade: B

7) Survival Of The Thickest (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

I didn’t like that Mavis even considered jaques for a minute. And then, our poor artist finds out his girlfriend has the backbone of a worm, and caves to her asshole ex. Clearly, that guy is never going to be happy with anyone in that role, and she can’t see it. She just hopes he’s understanding enough to be willing to not be allowed to attend things because it makes her ex-husband uncomfortable. I’m glad he let her go. She has issues.

Episode Grade: B

6) Beavis and butthead (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed?

I’m spacing these out, though I actually didn’t like the Smart Beavis and butthead segment. The second one was funny, but the first half uncharacteristically did nothing for me.

Episode Grade: B+

5) Archer (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Final Season

Well, the audio description was short lived. The first episode of the new season had it, the second does not. Fearing that Archer and the crew have been captured, Lana assembles the other half of the team to go rescue them, leading to some hilarious moments on a plane.

Episode Grade: B+

4) Frasier (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Revival coming in October

Pretty soon, I’ll have to say which Frasier I’m watching. This had Frederick trying to get his parents back together, or is he? Also, Niles is hilariously awful at video games.

Episode Grade: B+

3) Breeders (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Final Season

Luke has a big decision to make about college. Ava still has a lot of anxiety about just how much she likes her new girlfriend, who we finally meet. And, the grandparents finally go to live in an assisted living facility.

Episode Grade: A-

2) Telemarketers (MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes, but Sparse

Status: Limited

This docuseries takes the footage an employee of a really sketchy telemarketer farm and makes a compelling narrative out of it. This is why no one answers their phones anymore. I highly recommend this episode.

Episode Grade: A

1) The morning Show (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed?

What a compelling hour of television. The network is hacked, and everyone’s personal data is exposed. After the network refuses to pay the ransom, Bradley braces for what could be major backlash against her, as Alex faces a reckoning of her own as she is stabbed in the back, and also forced to work outside of her contract.

Episode Grade: A+
