TV Shows Watched: Alien Earth: S1E3 (Hulu) with audio description, Dexter Resurrection: S1E6 (Paramount Plus) with audio description, Butterfly: S1E3 (Amazon) with audio description, Ginny and Georgia: S2E9 (Netflix) with audio description, The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox: S1E1 (Hulu) with audio description, Irish Blood: S1E3 (Acorn) no audio description
Alien Earth- More really strong science fiction world building. Some are disappointed that the Xenomorph isn’t taking as center stage as they assumed, but I am enjoying learning more about this world around the aliens, and what our earth looks like. I think even the kids in adult synth bodies is creative, and there’s a ton of potential here. So far, Noah Hauley has not disappointed me with this series. The audio description is great. It’s so functional too, since a lot of it is visual, like the tracking device being planted on Slightly. With no description, his entire development would make no sense.
Dexter Resurrection- Dexter attends a wake, the actor who plays blessing makes a play for an Emmy nomination, and Dexter learns why the Gemini killer chose that name. Things could get really interesting. Also, the investigation into Harrison hits a brick wall when Lady Vengeance checks out before hearing the Dexter theory, and Harrison thinks about killing a landlord who won’t take care of black mold.
Butterfly- It’s been a week, so it’s really hard to not acknowledge the little twist from the pilot, which is that this is a family. So the daughter meets Dad’s new family, and their adorable little girl, and then all four go on the run together from some seemingly menacing foes, who seem easily dispatched. and this episode has a bit of a cliffhanger, but because this was a cliffhanger, I’m willing to bet Oliver is just fine. Nice audio description during the action sequences.
Ginny and Georgia- Doing bad things for the right reasons is what Georgia is all about. Unfortunately, her son watches her do it, and his life is forever changed by it. Meanwhile, we start talking more about Marcus’s depression, which leads to an unhappy moment for Ginny. And, the musical gos up. Perfectly fine audio description, especially during the “did she just do that sequence?”. Which is seen from her son’s face, and not from Georgia’s perspective, so it’s all about describing his reaction. Mortified.
The Twisted Tale Of Amanda Knox- I’m not a true crime junkie, so i actually know very little about this story. Amanda Knox is executive producer, which gives me hope this series won’t just be Monsters, or some other bullshit like Good American Family.
Irish Blood- Still trying to follow Alicia Silverstone’s quirky Irish dark comedy, and it is a bit challenging. I did pick up that she wasn’t actually talking to her dad, but I didn’t get the joke at the end about her date wondering if he got the right day/time? Was she too dressed up or down? Who knows. Oh, I would… if Acorn started using audio description.
