Outlander: Blood of My Blood- An episode focusing mostly on childbirth, but including a little bit of that touchstone of the Outlander franchise… rape. Just a dash of rape. Wouldn’t be Outlander without some. As I’m figuring out how to eventually grade the series, I’m putting a lot of stock into what I’m noticing as I try and do a video recap, which is I can’t remember anyone’s names. Never underestimate the power of facial recognition, because it’s hard to hear a voice with no context and know if we’ve heard them before if they are a minor character. Plus, I’m having a hard time remembering everyone’s names which I would get an assist on if there was AD.
Wednesday- A terrific AD track from Liz, with that great dance sequence everyone is talking about between Enid and Agnes being a highlight. Also, Frankie has done lovely narration all season, and her voice feels perfectly tied to the series. I’m loving Agnes so much that it almost makes up for how we’ve ignored some other cast members in favor of her. But really, Pugsley, is either miscast or poorly written, because I can’t stand him. I love everyone else, but this kid… something isn’t meshing.
Dexter- As one Morgan gets promoted, the other takes a stab at… an opportunity. Also, Harrison seems to mention something about a box, so dexter realizes he needs to be a better father, and keep that part of his life away from Harrison. More really strong audio description.
Foundation- I think I’m going to finish the season, and that’s a wrap for Foundation. I have always struggled with keeping up with it, and it just is a chore. The Wheel Of Time lost me in the third season too, so it feels like Foundation got three seasons, and that’s enough. Would I like it more if I could actually see it? Maybe? But also, maybe not. the show requires a lot of my attention, and I feel more like I’m studying the show than actively enjoying it.
All Of Us Are Dead- well, slap me silly cause this show has more than a 10 episode season. Some really gory deaths, written well in audio description, and described rather neutrally by a robot. At least it has AD. I keep telling myself that. It took a long time to just get TTS AD for this, and fans of other shows like Alice in Borderland are still waiting.
Pop culture Jeopardy- roundabout is doing fine work.
Hostage- I’m not crazy about how this show handles dialogue translated from subtitles. it isn’t as bad as the summarizing in Day Of The Jackal, but it is a little annoying. We obliterate the original voices, and instead read the text as who is talking at the given point, so the character’s name is first. But it is more novelized than that, so it would do more of “Jack says” or “Jill responds”. I’m not crazy about it. Adrenaline Studios is behind this. They’ve never been at the top of my list of AD studios, but they aren’t at the bottom. Really, it just comes down to how they do dialogue.
South Park- I lack the patience to wait for AD. Trey and Matt found such a lovely way of saying the same phrase over and over, in a very clever fashion, and really taking certain people to task. Also, the lebooboo dolls. No. I’m not looking up how to spell that. I don’t want to know. I tried to tell a gen Z I work with that on behalf of the Beanie Baby generation, what you own is soon to be worthless. But they have to have their trendy little doll.
