The Small Screen Diaries: 04/24/26

Amazon shocked me yesterday by axing Gen V, the Boys spinoff, which I had apparently allowed myself to be Mandela effected into believing had already been renewed. The weird thing is I didn’t actually think it was in danger. With the Boys wrapping in May, that leaves the future of the franchise in the hands of VOT Rising, the Jensen Ackles led prequel, set to debut in 2027.

TV Shows Watched: Star Wars: Maul: Shadow Lord: S1E6 (Disney plus) with audio description, Wondla: S3E6 (Apple) with audio description, Free Bert: S1E5 (Netflix) with audio description, The Fall And Rise Of Reggie Dinkins: S1E5 (Peacock) with audio description, The Pitt: S2E12 (HBO MAX) with audio description, Stranger Things: Tales From 85: S1E1 (Netflix) with audio description

Maul: Shadow Lord- Basically, this episode is 75% action, since the episode is really about 17 minutes long without credits. There’s some talk up front, as Riley tells Devan which sport he plays, but doesn’t explain it, and then all Jedi hell breaks loose. The battle sequence was great, though I wanted Maul to finish the job. The AD by Deluxe and Dave Wallace is great.

Wondla- I’ll miss this show. Not much, but a little. It was way better than I thought it would be, and I stayed for the whole journey. The finale is oddly satisfying, with a series of sacrifices, and emotional payoffs. It was also described rather well. this series went out on a bang.

Free Bert- Leanne tries to smooth things over after her cookies cause an allergic reaction, while Bert ends up getting what he wanted by joining a friend circle, which is clearly using him, but I’m sure he’ll find out eventually. Already renewed.

The Fall And Rise Of Reggie Dinkins- NBC still hasn’t decided on this show, which has a very talented cast, which just isn’t used perfectly all the time. However, in the battle of Tracy Morgan sitcoms, he’s way better here than on Crutch.

The Pitt- There’s no way Dana doesn’t get her second Emmy nomination for The Pitt. Her Dana is becoming the most compelling character in a sea of doctors, nurses, and med students. This episode has her jumping in and subduing a patient attacking a nurse, which she experienced personally in season 1. Her exchanges with Dr Robbie are the best. Nice AD as well, though nothing reached quite the bar as a few of the things they described earlier in the season.

Stranger Things: Tales From 85- The Animated Stranger Things series takes place between Season 2 and 3 of the live action series, and shockingly did not retain the original cast. Not that shocking, since they would need to fix the voices, but the two who voice Dustin and Max, specifically, really get close to the original voices. The first episode presents a simpler time, which is possibly going to be ruined by monsters. Having the same AD team as the live action series helps elevate this. Between this and Shadow Lord, the Star Wars series is a bit better put together.
