Since the last bucket list film was Blink, a film I was not fond of its messaging, the bar was fairly low going into The Life List for it to exceed expectations. Still, it is a Netflix release, and one that certainly doesn’t seem like it is poised for awards consideration. Yesterday provided ample TV news. NBC announced their fall lineup, which included a Season 2 renewal for Lopez V Lopez, and has left its remaining sitcoms (American Auto, Young Rock, and Grand Crew) on the bubble. NBC also surprisingly revived Transplant with a 2 season order (since the series comes from Canada), and pushed LaBrea’s tiny third (and likely final) season to mid season. Meanwhile, The CW surprisingly rescued cancelled AMC drama 61st Street. I’m not sure why. I’m not sure anyone was asking for that. joining the ranks of cancelled series are The Winchesters (which is being shopped to other networks and streaming services) as well as Kung Fu. Basically, The CW no longer exists. I can’t claim a shortage of good news today. The WGA voted finally to go on strike, which is officially happening right now. That means all guild writers, which is most of Hollywood, have ceased working on their projects. This affects shows with quick turnover rates first, like late night talk and variety shows. So until this strike is over, expect Colbert, Meyers, Fallon, Kimmel, and others to be reruns. This also likely ended Saturday Night Live’s season, unless a deal is reached soon.
