The Too Much TV Roundup- 05/11/23

joining the ranks of cancelled series are The Winchesters (which is being shopped to other networks and streaming services) as well as Kung Fu. Basically, The CW no longer exists. The once groundbreaking network, that started as a combination of The WB and UPN, two networks that launched hits like Dawson’s Creek, Girlfriends, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Moesha, Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, Reba, and of course Supernatural has turned into a barren wasteland.

13) Celebrity Wheel Of Fortune (ABC/hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Presumably Renewed

I wanted to watch this weeks episode just because I thought Vanna White competing alongside Ken Jennigs and mayim Bialik would be fun. This show is madness with audio description, and anyone who can solve a puzzle like this deserves the Medal Of Honor.

Final Grade: C+

12) Reservation Dogs (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

The kids finally end up in Cali after two seasons of talking about it. My feelings are that, while it allowed for a sentimental finale, it squandered the fish out of water nature of these kids in an area they weren’t familiar with. It would have been better to push Cali to Season 3 so we could see them trying to figure everything out, before the emotional payoff, but instead we got the payoff first. Then i think Season 3 will feature them staying in Cali.

Episode Grade: B-

11) 8 Simple Rules (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Bridget gets a job in a department store (remember those?) so she can make her own money to buy clothes, but spends more money than she makes. Katey Sagal had the most screentime of any episode so far.

Episode Grade: B-

10) Doogie Kamaloha MD (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

Kami’s orders are to have fun. Which would seem more impactful if she hadn’t spent the previous episode throwing a party. Of course, she can’t stop thinking about work, and has to chime in on the current case. She’s a workaholic like that.

Episode Grade: B-

9) The Night Agent (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Renewed

Three episode in on one of the most watched series of the spring, and I can say without hesitation, y’all are thirsty. WHY are we spending so much time with their assassins? Now the female assassin wants some kind of suburban life? i literally couldn’t possibly give less of a fuck about those two characters, and every single time this show invests time in them without explaining to me why I should care why these two have a life I get closer and closer to deleting this show from my queue. I will say, there’s always some kind of sequence that’s interesting and there was some of that here. It’s not a totally disengaging drama, it just has some problems.

Final Grade: B-

8) The Masked Singer (FOX/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Presumably Renewed

Actually a really strong final three, but voting off the best singers in the competition never crossed my mind. Pentatonix deserved to make it to the finale. I was thinking that Medusa was Wynonna Judd, but this week she revealed that the person she lost was younger than her. 2020 was the beginning of covid, and I started to think of Amanda klutz, who lost her husband in 2020, was a broadway performer, and has a young son. She’s since competed on Dancing With The stars, and I believe is still one of the people on The Talk. That’s all I’ve got. And I think Macaw might be David archuleta. Now that they are saying it, I can hear a little bit of that voice i used to be familiar with.

Episode Grade: B (Would have been higher if Pentatonix had made the finale)

7) 911 (FOX/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Moving To ABC

Angela Bassett’s Athena ended up handcuffed in an intimate position, requiring help from her partner. her partner, meanwhile, is trying to get her ex out of the picture. I don’t know why the show is entertaining the idea that a court might give this ex-felon custody over that of a married couple where one family memeber is a police officer. But, Connie Britton stole the show in the closing moments.

Episode Grade: B+

6) Dinosaurs (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

Did you know that this show doesn’t have a canned laugh track? It’s so odd to not hear that. But, I loved watching this again, and I still remember the character designs. Although, this might be a fun series for Disney to commission audio description for. A nice blast of nostalgia.

Episode Grade: A-

5) Not Dead yet (ABC/hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not yet Renewed

Mel gets to sit down and have it out with her ex. But, he seems genuinely understanding of why she left, and has worked a lot on himself. might Mel get back together with her ex? Also, the birthday party nonsense was hilarious.

Episode Grade: A-

4) Jeopardy Masters (ABC/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: not Yet Renewed

Two more interesting nights, and this competition is taking shape. it feels weird to see Amy on the bottom. But, these six competitors are really bringing it.

Episode Grade: A-

3) Schmigadoon (Apple Plus)

English Audio Description? Yes

Status: Not Yet Renewed

That ending felt a little rushed, but with only a six episode season, that’s what you get. But that opening song was fantastic. I just wish it didn’t feel like a sprint to the finish. I do love this show, and I’m rooting for a third season.

Episode Grade: A-

2) Game Of Thrones (HBo MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

This was S2E8 where Tyrion becomes worried about Shea, as well as all the other characters advancing their narratives. Jon Snow is off to meet Mance, and Theon has control over the land where he once was prisoner.

Episode Grade: A

1) Friends (HBo MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

I really enjoyed Tom Selleck’s time on the show. And this episode, where monica and Richard attend her father’s birthday party together and end up letting the cat out of the bag is classic. Ross’s reactions to everything are priceless. Monica being trapped in the bathroom while her parents fool around. but, Rachel also gets a tattoo that makes Ross like tattoos, and Phoebe chickens out. And Joey moves out on his own, leaving Chandler by himself with no one to lick his spoons. So, everyone did something.

Episode Grade: A
