After waiting a year to unceremoniously cancel the fantastic Riches, Amazon tries to make up for it by giving Reacher an early season 3 renewal. Yeah, not the same type of show, unless Jack Reacher is now played by a black actress, and the show is now about a heritage beauty brand for black people around the world and the family that helped push it to prominence that is now stuck in a Succession-esque fight for control over their dad’s company. So, we are back to the studios saying they have submitted their “last, best, and final offer” to SAG. Just the fact that the studios are saying that makes me question its validity. I wish I could toss out this list and fill it with all of the amazing performances of Matthew Perry that I managed to watch yesterday. Perry was such a tremendous talent, who landed too many one-and-done shows that truly deserved a second season. Also, Fran Drescher wrote a guest column for Deadline.com that is worth a read if you’re interested in hearing from the horses mouth about the Actor’s strike. She’s actually not exaggerating when she says their profession is at risk. The proposed AI rules from the studios, allowing them to scan and own the likeness of talent in perpetuity, could have eliminated most of SAG within just a few years.
