Kicking off the Small Screen Diaries for the day, let’s take a look at the week ahead and some things you might be interested in, because even though network television is not nearly as prominent as it used to be, it still means a ton of shows are headed your way, all at relatively the same time, either brand new or returning for new seasons. That is very much the case this week, with CBS returning essentially its entire lineup, including hits like Tracker, Elsbeth, Fire Country, Sheriff Country, Boston Blue, FBI, CIA, NCIS, NCIS: Origins and Marshals, as well … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 10/03/26

Kicking off the Small Screen Diaries for the day, I can announce that Amazon is sticking with the totality of the Jack Reacher franchise, with Reacher being renewed for a sixth season while Season 5 is still in production. Its spinoff, Neagley, was also just renewed for a second season. So, at this point, the anchor for Amazon is clearly this franchise, and likely Reacher will go on for however long Alan Ritchson wants it to. He continues to star in projects that are both streaming exclusives as well as theatrically released titles, and until he feels like he’s firmly … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 10/01/2026

Normally, when I do the Small Screen Diary, I start with the actual order in which I watched the shows. Today, I actually want to throw American Hostage, Season 1, Episode 1, right up at the top. This is the new MGM+ drama, and it was actually one of the later things I watched during the day, but it also had one of the more interesting audio description tracks. I didn’t get to listen to the credits at the end, so I don’t have the full AD information yet, but some choices are definitely being made here. This is the … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries: 09/20/26

The Paper: 30th Anniversary- Michael Keaton, Glenn Close, Robert Duvall, Marisa Tomei Quick Take: Not my first time through Ron Howard’s The Paper, which feels like some alternate reality nowadays. Trying to get kids to accept that a film about newspaper journalism is full of actors who are mostly still alive (Yes, Robert Duvall is still kicking, but RIP Jason Robards), and they see in films all the time, and when this was made… it was not a historical period piece. This is not The Post, or even All The President’s Men. The Paper takes place in the year it was … Continue reading The paper: 30th Anniversary
